^^^^^^ Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I mean I love her style, but if you reallly just listen to her song 'Complicated' (Without The Music Video) I mean it'd just...pop. I really like that song though (I even had it stuck in my head a few minutes ago ) but when I first heard her song,it made *me* think of a Michelle Branch/Vannessa Carlton type. *shrugs*

Who cares if she's just pop, does that really matter ? But like dorkateer said, whatever floats your boat.

I would classify her music as soft rock. I find the term "pop" music to be very misleading. It stand for popular, so basically pop music can be anything that is mainstream. It has very little to do with the actual sound of the music. Also, does it really matter what her music is classified as? The only thing that should be important is how it sounds to you.

^^^^ I totally agree, pop only means that the music is popular, it has nothing to do with the style. The style of the music would be like rock or something like that. I love Avril Lavigne, I got the CD and I love every song on it. Some of the songs are soft and but of them are more up-beat. There are songs that might be classified as "pop" depending on what you think that means. Others are like a "soft-rockish" sound. Anyway, I really like her songs and would suggest for anyone to get the CD or download the music.

<<but avril is a pop singer>> I don't think it's right to make that assumption before you've listened to the whole CD. Really a lot of her songs aren't all that poppy. Unwanted and Losing Grip aren't exactly soft and floaty. A lot of people juddge artists by their first track but, chances are, her manager made her release Complicated first because it was a pop-like song which would appeal to the majority of music listeners. Most of her songs have a lot of meaning to them.

"but avril is a pop singer"
I don't listen to "pop" much, But i defantly like this girl! I don't really care what kind of music she is considered if i like it then it's fine with me no matter what type of music it fits into. I absolutly love her style! The stripe arm warmer on her arm reminded me sonewhat of Gwen Stefanni (sp?). Also thats how I kind of dress. I think it would be a shame for people not to listen to her becuase of the music catergory she fits into.

I like her style. She dresses very cute, and I like the songs I've heard. It's not really pop, but more of a mixture of pop and punk.
And damn, she's pretty. I like her name, too. It's unique.

Yeah, she's pretty is for sure. And I love how she dresses. Very original and cute/punk! Loving it! I love that pic of her. And I love her song Sk8er Boi. "I want to scream it makes me feel alive." -Anything But Ordinary Man, that song sums up how I feel about lots of things. Listen to the lyrics. Nic

Avril Lavigne is so awesome, she's the hottest and best pop/punk singer out there!

Please don't call this girl's music 'Punk'. She is not Punk as I've said this bunches before on other pop/bubblegum groups/singers. The one example I can give on what Punk actually is would be Rob Zombie. He is the best example. What Avril,to me is,is pop or 'pop-rock'. But not Punk.

^^ i'm sorry heather, rob zombie is NOT punk... rob zombie is metal. a good example of punk would be like... the sex pistols, the descendents, the dead kennedys, the germs, nofx, bad religion... the list goes on. but definitely not rob zombie...

She calls herself Punk, so if that's what she says...hey. But I could honestly care less what kind of music you'd want to call it. I like her music, and that's that.

I just got her cd yesterday and it is awesome. I like every single song on there. I wouldn't compare her to Britney or Mandy because her songs actually have meaning. They aren't all happy bubblegum songs and they're not all about love. Most of her songs are really deep and easy to relate to.
