ewan mcgregor did look different in the movie. but hey, he was really good.
i think george might have done the movies in that order because it would make it more interesting and keep the fans wanting to know more.

I don't think George expected the Stars Wars movies to get as big and famous as they really are.
Gotta love'em.

George Lucas is in his early 50's. He finished Star Wars in 1977 when he was 35.
/\ No he didn't, when shooting for A New Hope started in 1975, it was just a bunch of cardboard stuff thrown together. The budget for Star Wars was, are you ready for this? Ten million bucks. Not alot of money. Models were made by buying out whole shelves of airplane, tank and battleship models from toy stores then putting them together everywhich way. Artists were pulled together. One called another and asked, "Hey, wanna draw spaceships?"
One reason the movie did so well is that we had been a few years out of the Vietnam War and a bunch of political and social messes. People were looking for escapism and Star Wars provided that. It was a cheesy story, but it broke ground for all kinds of movie making. Special effects being one of them, the movie still looks good today. It took from various genres like fairy tales, mideival fantasy and Japanese folk lore.
But George has these movies you may be familiar with.
1972, THX-1138 was his first movie. It made Steven Spielberg jealous. As you know the THX sound format is a premium sound system, THX-1138 can be found in many parts of Star Wars movies.
1975, American Grafitti 1977, Star Wars, A New Hope 1980, Star Wars, the Empire Strikes Back 1983, Star Wars, Return Of The Jedi, was going to be Revenge OF The Jedi.
1982, Raiders of the Lost Ark 1 1984, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom 1984-85, Howard the Duck 1985, Willow--started the whole morphing and digital animation you see now. 1990?, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, third installment
George has also written or directed other movies and has worked with Spielberg too. Namely the Lost Ark series. He also did a TV show with the Ewoks from ROTJ in the late '80's but the show bombed after a season or two.

a thought just came to me: When George filmed A New Hope, maybe he didn't expect to make any prequels or sequels since on the tape i rented last night it just says "Star Wars". (and i rented A New Hope) could be wrong, but hey, worth a shot.

<<since on the tape i rented last night it just says "Star Wars".>>
Ah hah! So I was right, when Star Wars first came out, it was never called, "A New Hope." It was named when they put the Trilogy out, thank you. ;D

<<Woohoo! Aren't you the smart one!>> The Force is with me! Do you mean Chancellor Valorum, the guy in black with the long white beard on Naboo? Or Senator Palpatine on the industrial looking planet (Coruscant)? The Naboo Republic is lead by the Queen. The Federation was lead by Senator Palpatine who places himself in power. You see him a little bit in ESB and he is the Emperor in Return Of The Jedi.

Wait a sec. I think I'm confused. In episode 1, who got voted the new chancellor? I thought it was Palpatine. Also, I mean in that big area where its like a court I guess with representatives from each planet. Who usually heads up that? But, when the chancellor got voted emergency power, was it for Naboo or the whole Republic? I'm confused. Help!

<<Wait a sec. I think I'm confused. In episode 1, who got voted the new chancellor? I thought it was Palpatine.>> It was. Senator Palpatine / Darth Sidious. Notice in Phantom Menace after Amidala voted No confidence, they're talking in the Senator's chambers, that red room, then Amidala walks out and just before that horizontal-up wipe, Palpatine gets that evil little smile. Then just before the parade and end credits in TPM, He pats little Anakin (to become Darth Vader / Luke and Leia's father) on the shoulder and says, "We'll be watching you." And again, he gets that evil little smirk. It's almost hard to see. <<Also, I mean in that big area where its like a court I guess with representatives from each planet. Who usually heads up that?>> That would be Senator Palpatine / Darth Sidious. << But, when the chancellor got voted emergency power, was it for Naboo or the whole Republic? I'm confused. Help! >> That was for Naboo. In AOTC, in the "big area like a court" Jar Jar was made the fall-guy and gave ALL the power to Palpatine for the Republic. Okay, here's the deal. In EP1, Darth Sidious, the guy in the the black robe is ALSO Senator Palaptine. Okay? Both roles are played by Ian McDiarmid. Later he takes power completely and, powered by the Dark Side, he becomes Emperor Palpatine. Same guy, but a traitor.

so the chancellor is always the head of the republic. alright. then why was he given "immediate emergency powers" in EP2?

/\ Yes, he was always in power. Palpatine was given emergency powers in his plan to take over the Trade Federation, which will become the powerful Imperial Navy, which sets up for the events in EP3 and sets the stage for Episodes 4,5 and 6.
Those big blue triangle-shaped ships in AOTC are prototypes for the 6,000 meter long Imperial Star Destroyers, those big white triangle-shaped spacecrafts. Those funny walking tanks are prototypes for the Imperial Walkers you see in Empire Strikes Back.

i think i get it. so he always is in charge of the republic, but he was given emergency powers to approve the army since they (being the republic senate) usually vote on things, but they didnt vote on the army?? what was the emergency anyways?
