Do you get offended when people use the word "gay" to describe things, or call others "faggots" and "homos"? I know that angers me to no end...

I don't get offended, but I don't agree with it. It's like stating that being gay is a bad thing or wrong. Even if you don't agree with being gay or those who are, it doesn't mean you have the right to use that term as a way that could possibly make people feel bad or guilty about who they are.
*sigh* people should grow up.
Yeah, I'm guilty of using it on occasion myself..I wish I wasn't. It's so...wrong. I don't know the right word to explain it....it's just wrong.

I could personally care less, it is just a term and people can say whatever they want to, it is none of my bussiness.

I don't personally get offended, but I certainly don't agree with it... I don't think it's 'just a term', because it is discriminating. If I would say, 'Oh, that's so christian', or 'Oh, that's so black/white', people would be offended too. I don't see why it would make a difference that in this case the word is gay.

i think its all a matter of how you use it. i'm sure that the person saying, "oh that's so gay" is using it like "oh that's so stupid". i know that's what i think when i have used that phrase/word. i wasn't purposely trying to harm anybody. it's meaning has just become slang for something else. i certainly have seen why a homosexual would be offended, which is why i'm trying to stop using it.

i say thing are gay all the time and for some reason i don't feel bad. i don't have anything against gay people, but the fect that i don't support homosexuality probably makes me not care so much about using gay as a derrogatory term. i know i should stop saying that and i'm gonna try. about the jewish thing, i live in canada and a lot of my friends say things are jewish and i hate it. i absolutely hate it! so i guess that makes me a hypocrite cuz i say gay.... well, i guess i really better watch my mouth eh? this is a good topic whoever started it. it made me think at least.

I was away this weekend and my friends and I met this guy who we hung around with for a while. It turned out that he fancied myself and one of my friends. My other two friends tried to make themselves feel better by saying he was gay. They said he had quite a high pitched voice (broken, but not really deep), liked to read, disliked football (soccer for Americans) and just wasn't like most boys his age. He isn't gay, I reckon he's totally straight.
But it annoyed me that you just have to be a little different from those around you, and you're considered gay, weird, or camp, or whatever people choose to call you. It's unfair to those who are totally straight but just different in some way.

I've used that phrase, but I didn't mean no harm to gay's. It's just a slang word for 'stupid'(at my school anyways). My peers say it lots, so It's hard not to uses it either.

I don't like to use this term at all. Most of the gay people at my school are really nice. If I were gay, I'd be really insulted by people referring to bad stuff as "gay." When people around me use it, I usually fire back with something like, "There's no way for your locker to be gay, sweetie, inanimate objects have no feelings. Calm down and maybe it'll open."

Yeah, it means "stupid" but that's really my whole point... If you were gay and contemplating coming out, or had already come out, it would probably offend you that people associate the word "gay" with stupid. I think it adds to a lot of the homophobia we have today. <<"There's no way for your locker to be gay, sweetie, inanimate objects have no feelings. Calm down and maybe it'll open.">> Haha... That's great... I'll have to use that sometime.

I agree with most of the posts above. I get quite offended when people say " oh your such a fag" or " thats so gay", I find it very offensive and rude and personally, do not say it.

The term "gay" is becoming part of people's every day dialogue. And it really bugs me. I don't know really know why, considering I used to say the word for just about everything. But, I began thinking, can someone's shirt really be gay? Nope, nope it can't. So, whenever someone calls an object gay, I give them the lecture, "That can't be gay, it has no sexual preference whatsoever, it has no brain, it doesn't think, therefore, it is not gay." People sometimes give me the evil eye, but I just laugh. I think I'll walk around saying, "Oh my God that is so lesbian!" from now on, maybe people will get a kick out of that.
