^i also have depression. i also have bipoloar. people have called me crazy so many times that i've lost count. the sad part is that most of the time, it was from my family. but after they kept saying it enought, i believed them, and started acting that way. so maybe there are other people out there just like that, and you don't know their whole story...IOW...don't be so quick to judge.

I really don't like when people say something is gay, when they use it in place of stupid. Why don't you just say it's stupid?
I don't say it, ever. Whenever my friends say it, I tell them that no, their shoelace is not 'so gay,' because it doesn't have a sexual orentation, it doesn't even know what gender it is. So all the people around me have stopped using it. And they haven't just stopped using it around me, they've stopped using it altogether. So since they don't use it, their other friends don't use it so much. And that makes a big difference when you go to such a small school.
If you're going to call something gay, gay meaning 'stupid,' you would appear more intelligent if you used a different word. Why don't you just say what you mean, instead of 'gay'?

^^^ So people shouldn't say that something is "cool" if they mean that it is interesting or neat?

Cool isn't an insult. If you called someone or something 'cool,' it wouldn't be a bad thing. 'Cool' has been around since the 50s, at least. It's commonplace now. I wouldn't like to see 'That's so gay' last that long.

^^^ What if "that is so gay" lasts really long? Will it be ok to say it then? Also, gay didn't always mean homosexual. Look it up in any dictionary that was published 30 years ago, and the only synonym for "gay" will be "blithe" or "happy". I personally don't care if someone wants to use the word gay to refer to something that is stupid. It doesn't mean they think that gay people are stupid, just like saying something is cool doesn't mean that you think it has a low temperature.

No, it won't be alright to use it. I said I hope it doesn't last that long. I *care* if people say it, like I care about everything else. I don't care if you don't care if people say it. Homosexuals have been discriminated against, a whole lot. Gay meaning 'stupid' has come about, probably beacuse people thought gays were stupid. 'It's so gay, it's something that a gay person would wear,' is supposed to be saying it's stupid. Gay people aren't stupid, and it bothers them to have people use 'gay' instead of 'stupid.

^^^ Well, people aren't going to stop using a word because it is potentially offensive. People are too sensitive and whine about being offended nowadays. They need to grow up. People aren't always going to say "nice" things to one another. It's life; deal with it.

I know people aren't always going to say 'nice' things to each other. But I try to be courteous to people who are nice to me. Using 'gay' in place of 'stupid' has never struck me as the right thing to say, or the best phrase to use. So I don't use it. It's kind of sad that people do think it's the best way to describe something. But I guess that can't be helped. I'll just do what *I* think is best for me and the people I talk to by not saying it.

It's true, the word, gay, meant happy or even brightly colored. Sometime ago, gay was hijacked and now describes people who have been lied to by Alfred Kinsey.
Words evolve all the time, words and expressions will always change. Access used to mean a physical opening, now it also means finding that computer function you want. Artificial used to mean "full of art." Now it means cheap, a bad reproduction, or fake. "Cool," and "bad" mean the same thing. Our language will always change and expressions will always be changed to suit the times. There's really nothing we can do about it, and frankly I'm not going to waste my time.
Look at the "N" word, people use it freely as an affectionate term. "Hey N**ga, wa's up, bro'?" I'm sure it's going to find it's way into everyday language and slang like other words do.

I don't think saying stuff like "Oh, thats so GAY!" is right. It's very discriminating to gay people, and gay's have their rights to be gay. Even though, just to my opinion & religion, being gay is wrong.

I think it goes against the TOS. Since it's obviously an offensive term, I also beleive it may be offensive to people here who are as confused as I am from being accused of being racist when we're not. If it's wrong, it's wrong, no loopholes allowed. If it's right, then it must be used in every situation.

I agree with what your saying, Toxic Avenger. Alot of people at highschool will say that, also, as an affectionate term.
I couldn't say that I could see "gay" being as an affectionate term in the near future, though. But, black people didn't like being called N!GG3RS either, back then. But now they do, it's kinda strange.

I am black, and I find n***er an offensive term, whether a white person or a black person calls me one. The thing that pisses me off is that when other black people call each other that, its ok, yet when a white person calls them one, it is racist.
