I think what we should do in school is form sort of unions for every religion that people want to represent and use that to learn about the religion that we're in (if we are in one), express that religion and also learn broadly about our religion.
We do Relgion and Ethics for most of our school life here in the UK. Is it the same in the States?
It sounds like you guys percieve the discussion of religion in skool as a sort of semi taboo...

Yes, but the teachings are purposely all wrong.
It sounds like you guys percieve the discussion of religion in skool as a sort of semi taboo.
That's because it's hard to know that the human is not the be-all and end-all, that a higher intelligence and power does have dominion over us.

Uh, no. It's because people are scared to be accused of putting too much emphasis on any specific religion.

That's precisely my point, we live in this fog of uncertainty while the PC crowd dictates what we should and shouldn't do along with the ACLU threatening everyone with their communist agenda.
As for me, I'm not afraid to put "emphasis on a specific religion" because some are fake and false. Too bad!

I understand why ppl fear putting an emphasis on a single religion BUT is it not possible to learn about all religion from a third person perspective and practise it first-person in your youth group and church/synagogue/mosque/temple/room... Sorry...i do the room bit

Think of it this way, name a religion that goes out and helps others instead of killing unbelievers. Good luck. I am certainly not God, or I wouldn’t need Him. But I can outrun the originator of one religion and out-care the purveyor of another religion that keeps women down. Nor do I subscribe to religions that tell their followers to kill themselves, or others. Neither do I put much stock in religions that tell me that crystals and fairies can guide me and help me live a better life. Ah, relativism, so confusing, I don’t know why so many buy into it.
How do I know, research an results.

Buddhism. Which, in comparison to Christianity, probably has killed a lot fewer nonbelievers.

Judaism. Buddhism. Hinduism. Oh, and Christianity doesn't "help" unbelievers, because they're too busy trying to convert them. Please...

It's not quite for me, but I definitely respect its approach towards being kind to others.
Oh, and Christianity doesn't "help" unbelievers, because they're too busy trying to convert them.
Like most religions, Christianity has a lot of sides. You see people like Mother Teresa, who are so sure in their religion and use that to help people, but you also have to see that there are a lot of Christians who use their religion to condemn the behavior of others and look down upon them, or convert them, or harm them.

^^^ But then, every religion in essence a philosophy of the way we should live our lives. God comes to us when we open up to him. What religion tends to be is a group of people's understanding of how to worship God and live life the way he wants us to. Therefore, seriously, the true core philosophy of any religion would never have it in it to destroy and demean people because of what they believe, the colour of their skin, etc. Its only people, like Bin Laden, Israeli extremists (oh dont deny they dont exist), Hindu extremists... its only extremists that make the religion a sort of reason to hate and that hate drives them to kill. Its misunderstanding that brings that hate out. Its an attitude that says 'oh what i believe is the rock hard TRUTH and nothing else is right and will ever be'. The funny thing is TA that every person in every religion goes thru that stage. Everyone thinks they are the 'true people', etc. Its possibly coz u urself are unsure of what u believe and ur force urself into such a frenzy. No way will religion ask u to kill or demean any other human being for any other reason, unless he/she is attacking u. Thats why a lot of people have lost their interest in organised religion, because of the way too many people interpret it - BADLY.

And, "Neither do I put much stock in religions that tell me that crystals and fairies can guide me and help me live a better life." Isn't a stereotypical remark??
