Today one of my fiend's,Cilla, was sent home today because she dyed her hair pink. Well, she's had the color in her hair for a month. Now,on our last week of school, before Summer, this boy dyed his hair 3 different colors. Then three of my other fiends asked a teacher if they could dye theirs on the last day of school. Well to make a long story short MY FrIEND was sent home and can't come back until her hair is washed out and at her normal color. Plus, the guy got a couple days of ISS (In-School-Suspension) Do you think they should do this?? I mean they say it's counted for a distraction and I understand that. But do you actually think Cilla should have been sent home because someone else decided to dye their hair?? And also, another thing, this othe girl dyed her hair, now she's a brunette (she was a blonde by the way) and she didnt get in trouble, even though **that** was more of a distraction than Cilla having pink hair. Well do ya'll think she should have gotten in trouble-any?? I,for one, don't think they should make a big deal out of Ecspecially on the last few days of school......

*Edited to make this about other dress code rules. Feel free to discuss those as well.

If it was against the rules, yeah, she probably should have, but not a month after she did it. If they're gonna enforce rules, they need to do it right away. Of course...I've always thought that was a pretty stupid rule in the first place. They put my sister in ISS last year 3 or 4 days before her last day for the same thing.
It kinda depends on the school, too. People weren't allowed to have their hair dyed an unnatural color at the middle school I went to. It's not against the rules at my high school, though. I'm not sure how it works with the other high schools around here, I've heard they've got rules against it too. The one really uptight one won't even let guys have braids in their hair, or something like that. (That schools has some issues beyond that, I think, but that's off-topic.)
What really got to me in middle school was how it was perfectly fine if people wanted to wear colored weave, but people couldn't dye their hair. They needed to pick a rule and stick with it, without exceptions. I never really understood why it was such a terrible thing in the first place...I mean, it's just hair.

<<<< I never really understood why it was such a terrible thing in the first place...I mean, it's just hair. >>>> Exactly. Thats what ALOT of people think also. <<<< If it was against the rules, yeah, she probably should have, but not a month after she did it >>>> I think it IS against the rules. When she first did her hair an unnatural color (actually her banges, the 2nd time was highlights),it was pink and she wEnt to the office and they didnt do anything to her because it comes out in 5-40 washes. The second time she did it (would count right now) She kept having to go to the offic because she told some women in the office that it came out in a 'couple of washes' (but not like actually a couple,ya'know) and got in trouble because the lady missunderstood. BUT they told her SHE wouldnt get in trouble unless it became an attraction--when everyone starts talking abou it. (s.s.l/sry so long ) Also, about the high-school thing, the high school Im going to allows people to dye their hair. My 'cousin' has his hair dyed in many colors (ie green, light blue) and never gets in trouble. And you right about that school where they wont let guys braid their hair,Thats just messed up,lolZ

<<<< are you guys allowed mohawks/dreads? >>>> <br> I'm not totally sure. Because there is this one boy who has kind of long hair that he spikes up with gel (and he is soo hott ) all the time and he doesn't get into any trouble. I haven't seen someone with their hair like that.

Yeah, i heard about something like that on the news,a kid in elementary, who dyed his hair blue and was suspended...Anyways, that's just ridiculous(that doesnt happen in my school), there's tons of people that dye/bleach thier hair and they aren't told anything. You or your friend should definitely talk to you principal about it.I bet if you get a petition to be signed it would get alot of votes.Tell your principal how theres alot of ppl(give him names, of teachers too.)who have done it and nothing has been done to them....it could atleast get other kids to do the same.

I think that it is a very stupid rule to have in a school. It is your right to do whatever you want to your own body. I coloured my hair purple ( no one else in my school has "wierd" hair) and a week later, an announcement came over the school intercom about how "un-acceptable" and "rude" it was to have purple hair. They never followed through with anything but teachers have said comments to me. If me having purple hair is a distraction, then maybe we should all unify and start having the same hair colour and skin colour and eye colour and language, and personality, and no distinctive features so that nothing can distract us!!! Okay, okay, maybe Im going a little bit too far, I just think it is a stupid rule.

Around here, it's only the private schools that have any rules against that. At my school, we can do whatever we want to our hair, pretty much. If someone dyes their hair blue, it's perfectly fine. In fact, teachers and faculty compliment it and actually like it.

^^^^^^ My English teacher *did* compliment Cilla on her hair. (Actually she complimented her on nearly everything). Well Cilla came back to school a day after she was sent home and her hair was an orangy-red. And our English teacher was like "Cilla. I love your hair! Do you miss the way it used to be??" I mean,it just sounded a little odd to me,like 'why would she ever bring that up anyway??" type thing......

Man, our school could care less about what you do with your hair. I had my hair streaked fire-engine red once, then I dyed the whole thing a burgendy (sp?) color, then a lighter shade of brown, then highlighted it blond. I love experimenting with hair dye! I think I might dye it burgendy again...I loved that color. ~Haley~

my school doesn't care. i've had the tips of my hair fire red and i've seen much crazier. the punks with purple, red, whatever mohawks. people with blue hair, etc. it's a public high school, there isn't much my school can do about it.
as long as it's not specifically written in school rules that you can't dye your hair "distracting" colors, than you shouldn't be punished. like, at my junior high, your hair couldn't be anything but a natural color, so it was understandable if they got you in trouble for having pink hair.

I have burgundy/maroon streaks in my hair, which is more evident in the sun than inside.
My school is pretty laid back about uniform, and permits natural-colored hair dye. Colors like blue, green and pink are likely not to go down well.
are you guys allowed mohawks/dreads? I attend an all-girls' high school, and mohawks and dreads aren't really 'in.' A couple girls braid their hair into thin plaits, but that's as wild as we get.

he only place I've ever seen it written down is in our agenda in the Dress Code..
Also,I Have this other question. There is *no way* anywhere where it says that chains (chains that you wear on your jeans) are 'forbidden'. So one of my friends sold me his chain and I wore it. The first time I did my teacher told me (at the end of the day) to take it off because we can't wear those. The the next week I wore it *all* week long and then the next week like on Wed.. or something, one of the like, assistant Principals, told me not to wear it,because it is a hazard. Now don't you think,if they don't want *me* to wear it (since they let boys wear them) that they should not let anyone wear them and just forbid them?? I hate that soo much......argHHH !!

[glow=pink,2,300]My school has some very strict rules on dress and hair, etc. We can't dye our hair any unnatural color but tons of people do and no one says anything to them. My friend had blue streaks in her hair since around December and the a teacher finally told her to change it about 2 weeks before school was out. There's a bunch of rules against 'revealing' clothes. In our student handbook they have pictures of acceptable and unacceptable tank tops or shorts. Naturally we can't have any suggestive stuff on our shirts but my friends got in trouble for wearing a 'Make 7 Up Yours' shirt which I think is ridiculous. We can't have any visable tattoos and we can only have our ears pierced, anything else is considered a distraction. If you're caught with a tounge ring or nose ring, etc. teachers have the right to tell you to take it out and if you don't you get sent home.
Kinda on the same lines of Linkin Park girls chain, we had a guy had to take off a spikey color necklace and another guy who had to take out his spiral contacts even though there isn't a rule about it.
Needless to say my school's administration sucks. [/glow]
