I hate how being "punk" is becoming the new trend. Because then, the people who were "true punks" first are now accused of being followers/posers/wannabes. I am not considered "punk", at least not to alot. If anyone calls me that, it's the people who actually care about stereotypes. So what? I shop at hot topic, I have shopped there since about the 6th fucking grade. That's almost 4 years, long before it became a new trendy store. "Punk" is a lifestyle, not a fashion statement, if anything. People who are "punk" are just the ones who are 100% themselves and don't give a shit how they are viewed by others. I wish it wasn't so "cool" to wear boots, plaid pants, "punk" band shirts, and converse all stars. To me, being "cool" is being yourself. What else is "cool" supposed to be? What do you guys think? Post your comments.

Yeah, I'm not punk myself, but I think it's ridiculous how people try to pose as them. Why are people so afraid to just be THEM? It's kinda drives me nuts...but, ah, what can ya do..

again i must say yowzas...i agree completely with you zonacruz6...but what i find hilarious...is at my school we have the IB program(i am in it so i know A LOT of them but i also know people in traditional) and people i know in IB are so afraid of my friends that are traditional cause they are goth/punk...and even if they aren't they dont care what people think they about them...and are just really cool...so a lot of my friends are afraid of my other friends...i just dont get why...they arent MEAN...they just dont really care about superficial things...which is actually GOOD...so yeah...the whole stereotype confuses me...

I agree. Now that punk is becoming "fashionable" I find the people who were, just a couple of months ago, making fun of the punks, now going up to them and asking them where they got their clothes. When the "fashion" dies out and the ture punks are left. The ones who made fun of them, then asked where they got their clothes, will be back to making fun of them again. Gggrrrr, I hate fashion crap!

I am who I am who I am. I have some punk clothes... but that's cause I like the style. I go goth sometimes, cause that's another style I like. I am not to put myself into one single catagory. There are alot of styles of clothes that I like and I'm not going to keep myself to one group. People call me a poser... but they're just cows. They'll get over it... while, being yourself isn't something you should try to get over. NiKKi

I can't stand the people who buy themselves a Nirvana CD and a black hooded sweatshirt with a similar kind of band name on it and think that bam! They're 'punk'. Takes a little more than that. I can't stand the fact that it's becoming a trend and the true punks are being wiped out and outnumbered by these pathetic posers. And why do they do it? To be 'unique'? Like, take a look around, so many are doing it, so don't follow!

I wear what I feel comfortable in. I don't follow trends - if I see a pair of wide legged cords that I like and can afford I buy them. Equally, if I see a funky sweater with the logo of a decent band on (and again if I can afford it) I buy it. I wouldn't class myself as any common stereotype. I'm myself. I listen to whatever music I like and I wear what I want.

I hate these trends, I really do. At my school, everyone has those little pin badges with 'NOFX' written on and stuff. And must of these people have heard about 2 songs by them and thats it. But I do hate the trends and how people think they are now punks since they are wearing ripped jeans and wearing "Papa Roach" T-Shirts. I'm sorry but that doesn't automatically make them a 'Punk'.
Its annoying how the posers are now taking over like this when 5 months ago, they would have have taken the mick out of what you were wearing. By the way, I am not a Punk but I am speaking from a Punks point of view.

I just went "punk" or whatever last year (6th grade) after I discovered Weezer and Sublime. For 2 years everyone made fun of my converse hightops and striped tights-I really didn't care. Now they all are stalking me for the name of the store I got the stuff at. Suckers go listen to some n'sync and browse a abercrombie and fitch magazine. Leave me be. I'm not sure if I'm punk-I'll I know is I'm not a poser-

In my school, it's pretty much, "Hey, I bought parachute pants from Hot Topic! I'm wearing loose-fitting t-shirts, a ball necklace, old school Converse sneakers, and black eyeliner! Oh Yeah! I have the Blink-182 CD, too!" I'm sorry, but Blink-182 just isn't punk at all, and Hot Topic has become the store of choice for every little teenybopper in the country.

It angers me to no end how stuck-up, stupid people think they're suddenly transformed into a punk because they have a safety pin on their shirt. *raaaaar!* And, like the above poster said (sorry, forgot your name), Blink 182 is NOT PUNK! Goy! People are all, "I am sooo, like, punk! Like, omigosh, did you hear the new Blink CD? Like, wow!" You are, like, such a poser! Like, omigod! I'm not a stereotypical punk because I don't wear hightops and funky tights, or whatever. I am a punk because I support the mentality, not the latest fashions. (Speaking of, I find it amusing that wannabe-punks spend $50 on "punk" shirts, when "true" punks would never be caught dead in something like that. People don't appreciate the idea of inventing, combining, and making your clothes original.) Sometimes I wear skirts and off-the-shoulder tops, sometimes I wear baggy pants, fingerless arm gloves, and paperclip belts...but it's all about comfort and enjoying what you see in the mirror. For me, it's all about being original. "And that, to me, is what being punk is really all about." *applause* Love, ~The I am Sooo Punk! Kitten~

Hey all you guys you are like all SO wrong... punk/goth was like so totally last year. Haha, I got told that when wearing my black nail polish, it pissed me off so much! But I guess it is "going into style". Anyways I stopped wearing all black nail polish becuase of it, every other nail is a differnt color. I get even more shit for that but i don't care. The thing people don't get is wearing a so called punk rist band that they bouaght at hot topic or pacsun doesn't make them punk. Some people like "store buaght punk" and get a lot of shit from being a poser. My theory on this all is... wear what YOU want becuase you want to not becuase someone else does it, becuase of you.
