Yeah, I'm not afraid to act totally insane, and also I don't mind wearing weird things because my friends don't mind, they enjoy my weirdness I'm getting a little annoyed at all the people trying to be something they're not just to follow a trend.

^^Yeah, we have that too. Last year a LOT of people refused to talk to the punks because, you know, since they wear chains and dye their hair, they're going to kill you in your sleep, duh! And now they're decked out in Blink 182 shirts and Converse All Stars and black eyeliner and saying "I'm not goth, I'm punk," to everyone *rolls eyes* This is one trend I'm sitting out on..
Actually, a couple years ago, I found out that there were punks, on a message board, and I always wished I was one, because they usually have this attitude that makes them confident and not afraid to stick up for someone or tell someone they're wrong, plus their clothes are cool. Now I still have that respect, but I can't say it or I'm a poser..oh well, I hope the trend is over soon..but I'm glad there's less Britney and pop-like music on TV, which I have ALWAYS hated. *shudder*

I hate hate hate the punk trend.
First of all, self-expression, to me, is not about how you dress. It's about standing out from the crowd with your personality and voicing your opinions to get the attention of others.
Ever since I've started high school, literally half of the school dresses like this. They all walk around in their $60 Hot Topic pants and think they're an individual, when they freaking look like everyone else! I see absolutely no point in this.
Ten years from now, when all these people are out of college, wearing their identical J. Crew khakis and wool sweaters, they're going to be very ashamed of what they tried to make themselves be during their time in high school.
You want to be an individual, eh? Go volunteer at a soup kitchen, fight for a cause you strongly believe in, be a star tennis player, but don't cover all your personal possessions in safety pins.

^^^ *applauds* I could not have said that better myself. I feel the EXACT same way. I can't even think of anything to add to it, because you stated everything so perfectly.

i hate posers. they annoy the shiznit outta me. Whoo-hoa, if you are implying that I am poser, then I'd like to set the record straight that I am not. I am myself, whichever stereotype "myself" could be, and I don't appreciate being called things I am or am not.

Well, we have to remember that there is a punk culture and there is a punk trend. I agree completely with Lisa on the issue about the trend. But then there are the people who are in it for fun. They KNOW that punk music sounds like ass. It's supposed to. It's all about the shows, the style of clothes, and the culture.
It's not about crying that preppies are stealing away their styles.
I mean, enjoy yourself and your look. If you happen to like punk clothes and punk shows and punk music--go act like a punk, I don't give two shits. But doing it because your CosmoGirl Magazine says it's oh-so-bootylicious is not much of a reason to change yourself. If you want to do it, I can't stop you, but you're setting yourself up to be thought of as stupid.

ah. one of the things that pisses me off most about the trend is the punkers that claim they started the trend, or they were punk first, or they're more punk than you... who the hell cares? i mean, seriously. does it really matter? how does the kid over there in a blink shirt affect you at all?
and about it being a trend. everything gets trendy eventually. it'll come in and come out like all other things, and the true ones will stick through it, the posers won't. it's life. it's the cycle of things. while it's trendy we'll have all the indignant "true" punks stamping their feet and kicking posers, when it's out of style, the kids in the new trend will be kicking the punk's ass. ::shrug:: so it goes.
as someone said back on razz, the true punker kids should be happy it's trendy at the moment because when it goes out of style, they'll be able to buy all the (shock) cool over-priced things they couldn't afford before at a thrift shop.

<<how does the kid over there in a blink shirt affect you at all?>>
That's the thing... It doesn't affect me. The majority of scenewhores out there dye their hair purple, stick metal through parts of their body, and wear brightly-colored baggy clothes just for shock value. They think they're defying authority. They want old women on the street to be disgusted by them.
I'm sure there are some "true" punks out there, though I can't really say what a "true" punk consists of. Today, though, even if you are real, you're going to blend in with the crowd and look like everyone else, too, even if you were punk from age 3.
Bottom line? Hot Topic is the new Abercrombie.
Teenagers are constantly looking for a way of self-expression, and I wish I could give most of these people a hug, a pair of plain ol' blue jeans, and a mind that works well enough to make the world a better place.
