[glow=pink,2,300]Linkin~You're grandmother is right, Wicca is essentially witchcraft. It's not, however, the evil 'Satanic' kind of witchcraft she thinks it is.
I don't know where people get that it's Satanic seeing as Wiccans DON'T believe in Satan or the Devil or anything of that nature.
Dismel did a fine job of explaining things. I've never heard of the Enchantress tho...Dismel, could you explain that a bit more?[/glow]

<<<< I don't know where people get that it's Satanic seeing as Wiccans DON'T believe in Satan or the Devil or anything of that nature. >>>>
I dont either. Some people, just judge before they actually understand it. I also told my grandmother that Wiccan's dont believe in either Satan,or the Devil. And all she said was,"Thats why its Satanic" I guess she says that (now I really dont understand that at all) But I guess she says that, 1.)she thinks Im gonna get scared and not gonna be one,or 2.)She believes that everyone should believe there's a Devil, because God made everything. Im not scared of anyone (who is Wiccan) anyway......

To all these people who say "it has nothing to do with God to place magick in things" - well, maybe not with YOUR God, or your concept of him/her/it. On the other hand, I totally agree that prayer is just another word for a ritual asking for the help of a (divine) force. And that is precisely what I consider magick to be. "It is Satanic because they do not believe in Satan" is just bull**** in my opinion. Often witchcraft/Wicca/pagan religions are betitled "Devil worship", but pagans (including Wiccans) do not believe in a Devil.
I don't have an altar. I'm not Wiccan, I prefer to call myself pagan, because I do agree with some of the Wiccan ideas, but sort of pick-and-mix from different philosophies to make my own belief system. I practice... well, not exactly magick, but I do believe in the effectiveness of charms (so it's basically portable mini-magick).

^Well, sex can be used in spells and rituals...it's not required...it's up to those doing the spell.

Hey everyone:: Just to let everyone know, my two fiends, Shelton and Faith (freakyweirdchicky) have become Wiccan.... Atleast I am and I guess the only reason Faith registered here is because she wants to know more about Wicca, who knows?? Well, we've already done a spell (me and faith have ateast) and it was a binding. Not.Quite.Perfect. == Since I have my own beliefs and everything, tell me if you think this sounds stupid-- We have done a binding spell (http://spellsandmagic.com was of great help) for "annoying people" to leave us alone. Well, I guess it kind of worked, I mean when you think about it. We did it on a Wednesday, I believe and Thursday was our last day. Now we won't have to see them again until we go back to school (we have 2 weeks before we return). Is this the kind of things that happen?? Or will it be like The Craft and stuff actually happens?? Plus, I do know (atleast that's what I found from that website) that you can't t just try and spell and see if it will work. You have to really believe. Wel, anyway, tell me what you think!

Well, I have been reading/studying Wicca on and off for the past 5 or 6 years... It's been a long road, but I think I am finally starting to find my "path". One that includes Paganism (more specifically Wicca or Druid). It is hard to describe what I feel, but when I think about dedicating myself to this path, it's such an overwhelming feeling, a good kind of overwhelming. Especially since I know that this would be a life thing for me, not like some of those fluffy bunny pagans. Wish me luck in my quest, whatever it turns out to be! Well, we've already done a spell (me and faith have ateast) and it was a binding.

Wel, anyway, tell me what you think! Granted I am not a practicing pagan/Wiccan/Druid/Asatruan/Shaman/etc. as of yet, but since no one else has responded, I thought I would. The Craft is a movie. Period. Do not expect someone's hair to fall out or see themselves as disfigured. It is pure entertainment. From what I saw of that movie, the closest thing to a real witch in that movie was that shop keeper, and even then one can't simply make all those candles light up without even touching them (at least, not to my knowledge)! When you do a binding or a spell, what you are actually doing is "manipulating" energy to help you in what you want done. Read "Book of Shadows" by Phyllis Curot. I've only gotten through a few pages so far, but she describes her journey and how magick works. She said something about the energy each thing has (particles) and all that one is doing can be partly explained by physics. I'll get the book later and give you an exact quote. Your binding may or may not work. It all depends on what you believe and what you intended to do (just like you said). And a side note (please do not take offense to this. If you are serious about your religion, then you shouldn't take any offense to this anyhow): Please do not call yourself a Wiccan if all you are doing is magick. There is a difference between dedicating yourself to the Goddess and God and following a particular path, and doing magick. If you are serious about your path, good luck to you and your friends!

This is a dead thread, but considering I have been studying Paganism for 5-6 years, I decided to post something.
>>Like, is it true yall use sex 4 sum of ur spells or sumthin like that<<
You may be thinking about The Great Rite. Simply put, the Great Rite is the symbolic or actual representation of sex. Usually, in covens, a High Priest and Priestess either performs the act of ritual sex, away from the other coven members, or uses the athame and cup in a symbolic representation. Normally the High Priest and Priestess are married.
It is true that there is a form of magick called Sex Magick, but it is purely consentual and normally between married couples. They use the act of sex to increase their magickal energy. It doesn't mean you have to, but it does exist.
Also, if you ever hear of somebody who is 'initiating' women into the craft by having sex with them, that person is perverted and should probably be reported to the police. Sex has nothing to do with dedicating yourself to the craft.
>>What are those magick name things??<<
Dismal did an excellent explaination, I just wanted to add something. A Magickal name is also the name the the Lord and Lady knows you by, it is the name that they will call you.
Also, about spells. Spells and rituals to me, are just prayers with props. You do not force a deity to do what you want, you ask them for help.

Hmm....certain forms of Buddhism also believe in lower order dieties as beings. Muslims believe in supernatural beings, that live in another realm, mae of fire. These beings are very powerful and it is belived that they can cross over and cause damage if invoked.
These similarities between different relgions is surprising..yet.. not.
Can someone give me a basic outline to what makes one a Wiccan? Coz i kno nuffin about it.
