One of the most controversial topics out there. Where do you stand? Personally, I'm 100% pro-choice. I completely support a woman's right to control her own body. I believe that no one, be they the government, parents, or friends, has the right to control someone else's body. IMO, it's my body, my choice. End of story. Post away! (And keep it respectful!)

I think abortion is wrong. If a women doesn't want a baby, why did she go take the chance of getting pregnent in the 1st place? Killing a baby is murder. It's a human being too.

I 100% agree. If she wants to have sex, then she should be prepared to have the concequences of it, which means pregnancy. As midnight said, it's murder. Your killing another human being.

"I think abortion is wrong. If a women doesn't want a baby, why did she go take the chance of getting pregnent in the 1st place? Killing a baby is murder. It's a human being too." What if a woman was raped? Or her birth control failed? (which does happen, you know.) And I don't see why, if a woman has sex, she's automatically assumed to be responsible for everything. Just because she's having sex does NOT make her ready for a child. Sex is NOT just for baby production. Sex is enjoyable, and a fact of life. And for the record, yes, I think that killing a BABY is murder. But I don't think fetus = baby. I urge you to view actual medical pictures of a fetus in the first few months of development (no, not the Silent Scream or other similar propaganda, but ACTUAL pictures). You will see it looks nothing like a baby. It also does not have a heartbeat, cannot breathe on its own and cannot think or feel. To me, abortion at this stage is equivalent to squishing a bug - it's not an actual baby; it's just an object. I don't see it as human in the least.

<<What if a woman was raped? Or her birth control failed?>>
If a woman was raped, that's the one and ONLY time I agree for abortion. If birth control fales, which yes, it does, the people having sex SHOULD know that's a possibility, and still be ready. Not go off and kill a helpless little baby because of that. They should take the concequences for their actions.

Just because it doesn't look like a baby, doesn't mean it's not. It needs the mother for life, yes, but it's a living, growing, human being all the same. Who cares what it looks like? It's still a helpless, defensless human.

I don't think a woman should kill an unborn baby because of her own mistake. If she was raped, then, yes, I can understand why she would want an abortion. But even if you used a condom, or was on the pill, there's still a chance, and you should realize that before you have sex. I mean, if you don't want the baby, put it up for adoption, don't kill it. It should have a chance to live instead of being killed from something it didn't do.

"I mean, if you don't want the baby, put it up for adoption, don't kill it." No child of mine, wanted or not, is going on the adoption system. I will not even begin to explain my issues with that system. Maybe I'm just selfish, but no matter; it's how I feel about this.

A question for anti-abortionists: Why is killing the fetus of a woman who was raped (or other cases) acceptable, but killing the fetus of someone who got pregnant unintentionally unacceptable? Feti in raped women deserve life as much as those in others seeking abortion.
I'm 100% pro-choice. Many women are too afraid to report rape or abuse. Many men are wrongly accused or rape so the woman can legally and safely have an abortion. It's not always as easy as "If she was raped, she should have an abortion."

If the woman was raped, I could see why she could get an abortion because she might not the baby as a memory of what happened. I know I wouldn't want to deal with a baby after something like that happened to me. But on the other hand, if you CHOSE to have sex, and wound up pregnant, you asked for the baby. You knew it could have happpend, and that's no reason to go and kill it because YOU don't want it.

How is having sex a "mistake"? Anyway, I hate it when people say that abortion is wrong in any case except rape. If you think abortion is murder, how is it justifiable even if the woman is raped? Is it not still "killing an unborn baby" just because of how the fetus got there.
I am 100% pro-choice. I feel that the fetus is part of the mother and is completely dependent on her, and therefore the mother should have say in what happens to her body. A fetus at 3 months is nowhere close to being a baby. Yes, it is a potential life, but the eggs in your ovaries are also potential lives. However, I do feel that it is wrong to abort in the 3rd trimester. By that time, the fetus has all the vital organs to live on it's own. And of course, I think that partial birth abortions are disgusting.

<<if you CHOSE to have sex, and wound up pregnant, you asked for the baby>>
You don't ask for a baby by having sex. Sex isn't solely for creating offspring. It's an enjoyable, intimate act. If the majority of married people didn't have sex regularly, their marriages would crash and burn.

>> If a woman was raped, that's the one and ONLY time I agree for abortion. <<
Since we're presumably talking about law here, how would you propose legislating this? That's much tougher than just saying that you think it should only be okay in certain cases.
>> It needs the mother for life, yes, but it's a living, growing, human being all the same. <<
I personally think that an early-term fetus isn't a person. Why? Because it isn't capable of the level of brain function that we require to consider someone that way. If a fully-formed, independant human being had that level of brain function, doctors would declare them brain-dead and start asking about organ donation.
>> if you CHOSE to have sex, and wound up pregnant, you asked for the baby. You knew it could have happpend <<
If I go to a club and have a drink I know it might be drugged by some asshole guy who wants to rape me. That doesn't mean I asked for it.
>> If the woman was raped, I could see why she could get an abortion because she might not the baby as a memory of what happened. <<
But if you insist that the "baby" shouldn't be punished for the mother's mistake, then it's pretty hard to turn around and say that it's okay to punish it for the father's mistake -- even if he's a rapist.
>> And of course, I think that partial birth abortions are disgusting. <<
They're really pretty uncommon. I would have a huge problem with someone getting one for purely elective reasons, but I think you'd have a damn hard time tracking down a doctor who would be willing to. I think they're acceptable in cases of massive, uncorrectable birth defects and to save the life of the mother.

I am for abortion.
>>If the woman was raped, I could see why she could get an abortion because she might not the baby as a memory of what happened. I know I wouldn't want to deal with a baby after something like that happened to me.<<
If you think that abortion is murder (I don't think it is), why would it be ok to 'kill' a fetus that was a result from rape? That would be just as much 'murder' as it would be if you would 'kill' any other fetus. It seems almost like you see abortion as a way for a woman to 'get away' with having sex without having to face the consequences, like they just do what they want 'because they can have an abortion anyway'. An abortion isn't something you just decide to do, like, 'hey, today I'll go have an abortion!' Women who want an abortion usually really have problems or aren't fit to raise a child. It hurts them too to have an abortion, even though the child isn't born yet.
>>But on the other hand, if you CHOSE to have sex, and wound up pregnant, you asked for the baby. You knew it could have happpend, and that's no reason to go and kill it because YOU don't want it.<<
If you used protection, you certainly did not ask for the baby. And what about people who never want children, should they just never have sex??

It would be completely illogical for a couple who does not plan to have children to go and get abortions all the time. If you are not planning to have kids it would make a lot more sense to have the man get a vasectomy or the women to get her tubes tied.
