How many of you "dress up" for school, and what would consider as "dressed up" for school?

I think it's ridiculous to dress up for school. I'll admit, I like to look nice, but "nice" in my opinion consists of a nice pair of jeans and a clean fitted t-shirt for the most part.
Some girls wear dresses and skirts and stockings to school, but I don't see the point. Not only are they not practical for walking down crowded hallways and bending over at your locker, but I think the way that they're so uncomfortable can distract you from your work.
I think too much of an importance is placed on fashion at school. You can still look nice without slaving over an eyelash curler for 2 hours.

^^agreed. in middle school, i didn't care about clothes, hair, & makeup; & i got made fun of by EVERYBODY (both students AND teachers!!) just b/c i wore jeans/t-shirts/sneakers/plain face/plain hair to school everday. ppl used to say that i was "ugly" (i wasn't), or that i "must be poor" (my dad's an airline pilot, so he makes VERY good money, thankyouverymuch!)
*ugh* it really pisses me off when ppl do that- especially if it's from adults. this is another reason as to why i think they should have a mandantory school uniform or something...

I do! I love to look better than other people. I like hearing "Aww, you dress so cute" But at my school, there's a bunch of millionaires, some billionaires, and other people with a lot of money, so a lot of people dress really good. But I still like to get compliments. I wear skirts, cute capris, some dresses, nice pants, nice shirts and stuff. I wear heels mainly and flip flops, I only have one pair of tennis shoes, while I have over like 15 pairs of heels, and like 10 flips flops. I think it doesn't take away from your concentration. I'm more confortable in heels, than tennis shoes. To me, theres no sense in being plain, why not be extaordinary !

I actually went to school to learn, unlike some people. High School has become a fashion show, and I think it's pretty pathetic.
Although, the ones who are more concerned with how "cute" they look that day will be a lot less successful than the ones like me who studied and cared about their grades moreso than their appearence. So the end justify the means so to speak.
When I become successful, I'll be wearing nicer clothes with money I earned, have an active social life with people who care about me for *me*, than those who are superficial bubbleheads in HS who will end up making minimum wage or getting pregnant when young.
College applications don't care how cute you looked that day, or if you had 2304723087 boyfriends, or friends.

it annoys me when i can tell that someone has taken 2+ hours to get ready for school. come on, it's just SCHOOL for crying out loud! you're there TO LEARN.
i see nothing wrong with taking pride in your appearance, being attractive... but there are people who take it way too far. it takes me 10 minutes to get ready for school in the morning. i wake up, brush my teeth, get dressed, brush my hair and i'm out the door.
yes, it's nice to be complimented... and sometimes i am, but it's not because i was striving for it.
i dunno.

^^^ I know exactly what you mean. You can tell that those people are trying way too hard. It takes me a grand total of 15 minutes to get ready for school. I always shower the night before. It takes me 5 minutes to wash my face, brush my teeth, and put my contacts in my eyes. Then I just throw on some clothes. Sometimes I pick them out the night before. Other times I just find something in my dresser or closet. And after I'm dressed, I can put some makeup on really quickly and brush my hair. And you know what else? I look perfectly fine. I could spend 2 hours getting ready, and I might look a little bit better, but it wouldn't be worth it. It's just freaking school.

Well...I dont think that it distracts people as some others think..but I dont think that you have to dress up everyday. But thats my opinion..if you wanna get up 2 hours earlier everyday instead of getting sleep thats fine with me.As for me it takes me a half an hour to get ready..and thats only cuz I have to take a shower and dry my hair. I would take a shower at night but I'm a wild sleeper and my hair is usualy umm pretty wild with that...lol. As for clothes I wear a pair of jeans and a t-shirt normally...I do dress up for school on our Christmas Chapel and The first day of school, and the Easter Chapel and the last day of school. Other then that...I decide to stay comfy.

Yes, I do tend to dress up everyday. In the spring time I wear dresses, heels and cosmetics. It just boosts my self-esteem. Although I have to agree that learning is the main priority but I don't usually get distracted by my looks when I'm learning. I just feel nicer. That's all.

I'm not in school anymore but when I was in high school I used to dress up and put on full make up all the time. I wasn't interested in school at all and we never learnt anything new anyway, so the only way to make the most of it was to dress up and go there to meet guys or play sports.

first semester for grade 13, i wore my pyjamas or sweats almost every single day.... but second semester i wore dresses and nice clothes most of the time - because i had a first period spare! i like to look nice but it's not more important than sleep. if i have to get up at 6:30 for school you can bet i'm not gonna waste time getting dressed. school id just not worth it. i hate how some girls get up at like 5:30 (i know because they told me) just to get all dolled up.... i just wanna smack them and yell "WHAT"S THE BIG DEAL? IT"S JUST HIGH SCHOOL!" fortunately i'm done high school now and i am looking foward to wearing my sweats every day of university next year.

I mean, I like to look nice for school...but not, like, fancy-nice. I wear jeans and t-shirts or sweatshirts mostly. Sometimes I'll wear a jean skirt or something. I like to do my hair and put on my makeup though. I don't know, it does boost my self-esteem...especially when people compliment me. .Brite.

The thing I go by is if you're going to be out of the house for how many hours you might as well look good. I mean for me besides the weekend going to school is the only time I leave the house, after school I don't go anywhere, so I like to dress it up sometimes. But that doesn't mean I won't rock some sweatpants and sneakers and a t-shirt. Lol. In the spring time I do like to wear skirts though, cause it gets hot.
