i don't know if some of you "know" if God is a man or woman, or if some of you have wondered this for years. my sister and i have been talking about this for a couple weeks and she has decided that God is definately a man. she says this because when adam and eve at the apple and sinned, eve was punished by having pains during child birth. and all adam had was a slap on the hand. both were told to leave the garden, and yet, to this day, woman have more pain than men every month and when they have a child, they have a tramendous amount of pain.
what do you all think?

I don't think God is a man or a woman, but something in between. (I'm not Catholic, btw) Basically I think the whole 'women-are-being-punished-because-eve-did-something-bad' thing is stupid. It's just sexist and it doesn't make any sense. Why would God punish all women for one mistake that only one woman made? That would simply be discrimination, since not all women are the same and it's not like all women should pay for the mistakes one woman makes now (the same goes for men, of course). But that doesn't really seem to have anything to do with whether God is a woman or a man anyway... ~*Esther*~

I think that if there were a supreme being, it would not have a gender. God is referred to as "He" in the Bible, but that is because it was written by men and is somewhat biased.

I agree with what Cass said. I believe that the higher power isn't a "she" or a "he", but both, or neither (if that makes sense). Plus, as for the Adam/Eve thing, I like to think that the higher power chose women to give birth because they're the stronger of the two sexes. hehe Could you imagine what a man would be like during child birth?

I believe God is a man. I have always thought that, Nothing new. But I sometimes think he is never. There are lots of things that cannot be explained by man... And this is one of those things, He could just be a spirit and nothing more.

I don't believe God is anything... in that, I don't believe he is male, female, or can be wholed up into a box. God is in three parts, so I believe that God is a spirit, he was in human form, and he is the Father - who is often just generally known as God - who is transcendent and supernatural; yet immanent, etc.. God cannot be described.

I think He is a man. In the bible He is referenced to as the Father, not the Mother or whatever. And as far as the Eve thing goes, God has reasons for everything, and like Hey Now Girl said, could you imagine guys going thru labor?

It is my opinion that God is neither man nor woman. Technically, gender is classified most often by [ahem] certain body parts. God, being that He is not of flesh as we are, would therefore be classified as neither. I believe that the title of He/Him is simply included in the text of the Bible for the simple purpose of human relation. Would you feel comfortable referring to Him as It? " It knows all!" I personally believe that it is much more comforting if we are able to find some way to relate, and therefore the concept of gender was included. But "Why He?" you may ask. "Why not She?" I believe that can be explained simply by the time period that the Bible was written in. Men thought of themselves as superior, I suppose, and so without thought used this simple default as a way to refer to God. But, as always, this is all just my opinion on the matter .

I believe that God is a man too, because of all the pain and suffering they have more then Men. So, yeah. I remember a thread at Razzberry and it twas called "Is God Sexist?" I really don't think God is sexist either because Eve was the one who talked ADAM into eating out of the forbidden fruit, and that's prolly why weoman have to go through what we go through. That's just my 2 cense. xoxo, heather

I think God doesn't exist, but if he DID, he's probably be somewhere in between, or all of the above, or neither.

/\ Sounds like you're allowing the possibility.

Yes, I have no trouble admitting that there is a faint possibility God exists, but I don't believe he does.
