Hey everyone! I have a bit of a temper. I need help with something. Everytime my parents say something to me, I usually get angry and annoyed and will start yelling. Mostly anything will set me off. Any tips for how to control my Irish temper?

Your irratability could be a sign of depression.... talk to your parents, tell them you can't control it. Go see a doctor, or maybe a counsellor. Perhaps you should go on some pills like zoloft or something. Do you have any other symptoms of depression?

I don't think I'm depressed. I could be... I guess. But what other symptoms are there that contribute to depression?

Irritability, crying really easily, self-injuring, loss of interest in things you like, boredom, insomnia or excessive or disturbed sleeping, appetite loss or over-eating, intense guilt feelings over minor or imaginary misdeeds, various pains like headaches or chest pains without evidence of diesease.
That's all I can really think of....

I think it is just a bad temper that I have. Because I'm not sad or angry all the time. Talena, I hope you feel better! But again, does anyone have any ideas on how to control my temper?

Hi Sassyfun, fellow Irishman here. What is it about these times that irritate you? It sounds stupid, but count off until you can feel yourself calming down. Another thing you can try is, think about what's being said to you, is it really worth getting mad at? Beleive me, at work there's alot of stupidity I have to put up with. They call me when they can't figure out how to work the piston lever of a CHAIR.
Also think about what it is that your parents say that bothers you. Is it that they don't think, (or want to think) you know more than they think you do. Sit them down sometime and tell them why certain things they say bother you.

I just tell myself that I like to go because I get to see my friends AND because I like what I am wearing and I love showing it off..Actually that wouldn't be making it fun,So I don't know, lol. But like I tell myself that "The year will go by quickly so make the best off it" again, not making it fun,Hope I helped out (atleast a little)lol.

About your temper-- It's normal to get worked up over little things that happen to you. You probably just throw all these things into the back of your mind. You sweep them all under your "mental rug", until you have a big lump there that you have to deal with. So, then you let it all out, it feels good, so you end up doing that all the time. I have this problem sometimes. Whenever something happens, try taking a deep breath and talking about it.
About school-- Do you not like it because your grades aren't good, because you don't get along with the teachers, because you're not comfortable with the social scene...? There's a lot of reasons to dislike school and if I knew specifically what it was I might be able to help you better.

I know how you feel about the temper. I get angry over the littlest things, even so stupid as a typo. When I get mad, I go punch the crap out of my walls (fortunately, I don't have drywall ) Which explains why my knuckles are all bruised. But finding ways to vent your frustrations (without getting yourself grounded) is really helpful. I get pissed so easily and so constantly, but just the tension release feels good. Find your thing. Beating something up, ripping something apart, slamming something, breaking something, writing in a journal, even plotting stuff Whatever does it for you at that moment. As far as school goes, if you tell us what you hate so much about it, it might help.
