I was wondering if there are any other vegetarians out there? You can post everything about 'being-a-vegetarian' here! I'm a vegetarian and I've been one since I was about 10, I think, so it's been 5 years! Well, post away! ;D ~*Esther*~

*stands up from chair* Hi, I'm Elly, and Im a vegetarian. (hehehe) I have been a veggie for just over a year and I dont think I ll ever go back. I started after I found out how some animals are treated before they are killed ( and how they are killed in some casses). I just went cold turkey ( no pun intended ) and havent had any meat since. At first it was hard, and I came close to giving up but after about a month the urge to eat meat stopped and now it just disgusts me....plus I had to learn to cook cus I have to make my own dinner when my family has meat dishes and now I can cook pretty well! If anyone is thinking about going veggie, I really suggest it and wish you luck!

I've been vegetarian since I was 10. Traumatic pig slaughtering event made me vow to never eat or wear anything that had previously been living. yeah. when I was 10 we lived in the country and had two pet pigs and at the end of the summer my step father decided it would be cool to have a pig roast

any one a vegan? i tried, but i'm too much of a dairy freak. make sure all you gals and guys get enuf iron and vitamins. sometimes a multivitamin can help with that. always check with your doctor to see if they have any advice! who loves tofu? and chickpeas? and all that food you discover when you stop eating meat? i've been a veg. for about 2 years. i even managed to convert my mom and dad. next step....take the world by storm!

I'm a vegetarian, and I've been one for a little over a year. I started by cutting out red meat, then pork, then all meat, then fish. I love animals, and I can't stand the thought of eating them. I first decided I wanted to be vegetarian on a road trip up to my sister's in Oregon - all there waas to do was look at cows and pigs and it made me sad and grossed out to think I'd be eating them. So I stopped eating them. It took me a long time to convince my parents to let me be vegetarian. I can understand why they were worried, I'm only 13 and they were afraid I wouldn't get enough vitamins and protein and stuff. I had to do a lot of research and make up menus and recipes before they would let me...but I eventually won. The hardest thing for me to give up was chicken fingers/chicken nuggets but then I found Morningstar Farms Chik Nuggets. They taste exactly the same!!!

I'm not a vegetarian right now but I want to be! I'm having a hard time convincing my parents, but when I have a choice between meat and veggie, I obviously go for the veggie (like if I'm eating out). But at home, my mom doesn't want to cook special meals for me, so I'm basically forced to eat it. I'm going to keep doing research to convince them, and figuring out where I can get all my vitamins and stuff. I just have a hard time staring at my steak and thinking "Mooooo!!" I don't want to eat anything that was once alive. I'll probably have to cook my own stuff. But it'll be worth it!

Natalie- Try to talk to your mom about the food issue. My mom was the same way, but now we have realized its not such a dramatic change ( for cooking) For example, if you are having spaggettie (sp?) and meatballs, just cook them separately and then who ever wants meatballs can just ladle them on. If you are having hamburgers, just buy a veggie burger and you can cook it at the same time and everything. If you are having a strictly meat meal, then prepare your own. If you are really serious about this, offer to take a vegetarian cooking class, and get information of the web about why you are doing this. Good luck! I hope I helped

i'm a Semi-Vegetarian. i'll eat lean/low-fat meats or seafood about once a week, ect. I take a Multivitamin; Calcium supplements; & Apple Cider Vinegar supplements. it was really hard at first, especially since i still live at home & my family are total carnivores/junk-food-addicts. i used to drink a glass of chocolate milk (2%) every morning as my "breakfast" (i had a MAJOR chocolate craving back then). nowadays, i take 2 Calcium Supplements as soon as I get up in the morning, so I don't forget. as soon as i cut-out Dairy, Meat, Breads/Grains, & Candy, i lost a LOT of weight. i used to weigh 220 on a 5'10 frame. i now weigh 130 on a 5'10 frame. cool huh?

^^^cutting out breads/grains and dairy from your diet is a very dangerous thing to do and can cause long term health defects. To stay healthy, your body requires 5-10 grain servings ( 1/2 cup=I serving ) a day.....please re-think your diet...

I heard that 22 slices of wholemeal bread provide enough fibre for one person per day.
I try to avoid meat. I don't feel comfortable when I think of the animals that were massacred for my dining pleasure. Often I am reduced to eating some red meat, as my doctor advises I need iron for my monthly mestrual periods (Ah, another joy of being a female).
I do eat animal produced products, including eggs, cheese, milk and other dairy products.

Yes, I'm a vegetarian, as of January 1, 2001. It was kind of like a New Year's resolution.. I don't eat cow, chicken, pig, fish, or any other animal that meat comes from.
I do eat eggs, milk, cheese, ice cream, and all other dairy.
So I have been a vegetarian for about 1 year and 7 months now.. Woohoo.
I don't even miss meat.. not at all.

I can see why some people are vegetarians, but I couldn't survive without eating some meat.

insane.canadian - I have no idea in what foods you can find B12, but I just take multivitamins. I've been taking them forever anyway and they have like 110 % of the amount you should be getting every day, so I guess that's enough. Nuts, cheese, eggs and legumes (I *think* that's the right word... : are very good meat-vitamins-replacers too. ~*Esther*~
