What book would you reccommend for someone who wants to learn how to sew?

^Don't know. Try a book store. Or check out the 'crafty links' thread for online help.
To everyone: How 'bout posting about sewing clothes -- what clothes do you make? Any ideas for us? Pictures?

I think someone showing you how would be the easiest. And yeah my grandmother taught me. She lives right nearby so I used to go to her house all the time and she would help me if I had a problem. No wait I took classes first then she helped me get better. Anyway I just got my own machine. I have a whole bunch of stuff picked out that I want to make. Just got back from atrip so now would be the perfect time to start. I design some of my clothes but most of the time I look in stores or magazines and make some changes so the clothes fit me. You know like change the material or make the hem longer stuff like that. I saw this great dress in a magazine but it was a wedding dress so of course I had to make so changes to make it fit into my life. Now that's on the top of my MAKE list. ;D

i sew pants out of old kids bed sheets.... y'know that ones with cartoons all over them.... they're quite popular, all my friends want some. and they only take like 30 minutes to make. pretty easy.
right now i'm sewing myself a hoodie and skirt out of pink fleece. the hoodie's gonna have ears on it and a care bear tummy symbol. so when i wear it i'll be a big care bear. how cool is that? i love the care bears!
i also have this funky lime green polka dotted bedspread that i'm gonna make a ruffley skirt out of. i just need some spare time.

I always make my own purses. I never buy them, and I don't even have a sewing machine! I just do it by hand. My older sister takes old dresses that are too short or something and makes them into skirts. Most of them turn out really cute, but some are, well ugly. lol!

^Yeah. I sew everything by hand. I've made heaps of pillows and little purses. I have yet to sew an item of clothing but I was thinking of taking my old blue jeans and making it into a skirt. Maybe after exams.
