Dashboard Confessional

I thought we needed a thread for Dashboard Confessional (also known as Chris Carabba), the musical genius.

Most people think DC is a band, when it is actually just Carabba. He does have different instrumentalists, but no one strictly belongs to the band. He's calling himself "Dashboard Confessional" thinking that someday it will be a band.

His music is a perfect example of the undefinable and always confusing genre of "emo". Slow, simple melodies, and that perfect mixture of sadness, hope, and anger. Dashboard Confessional's lyrics are moving and poetic... Pretty much everyone can find a song that touches them in one way or another. His new album, The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most, is gaining popularity and attracting many fans.

If you don't like Dashboard Confessional right away... Just try to listen again a little later. I didn't get hooked right away; it took me a few listens to really appreciate his music.

Also, you need to check out a band called Further Seems Forever. Chris Carabba wrote songs and sang lead vocals for this band until just recently, when he left to work on Dashboard. However, their CD and most of their songs available online still feature Carabba. This band is completely amazing. Their sound is slightly different than that of Dashboard Confessional (I find it a little more upbeat) but it's still incredible.

Wow, my dear, I was just thinking about posting a thread about DC! Anyways, this guy is hot and totally talented. He deserves much credit. My favorite, most favorite song is 'Again I go Unoticed'.

Wooo, boy! I plan on getting his CD within the next few days.

I saw him live tonight... He was completely AMAZING! Totally blew me away... He's such a talented artist. I was surprised at how many people could sing along to all of his songs (considering it was a Weezer concert) If only I had better seats...

I saw him with Weezer on the Enlightenment Tour... I would have loved to go to his other tour with the Anniversary, where he would have been headlining (he was only on for about 45 minutes at this concert). The Anniversary is one of my favorite bands, and Ben Kweller is great too.

I heard he's going to be doing a solo tour soon, at small clubs just like he started out... Just him and his acoustic guitar, no backup band or anything.

BTW, while DC is Chris Carrabba, he's worked with some great backup bands, and the drummer he's morked with most (Mike Marsh, I think) is amazing.

Side note: Further Seems Forever has done some awesome work post-Carrabba and their latest song, The Sound, is amazing, and completely not Chris like.

I used to be quite into Mr. Carabba a couple of years ago, but that got old quite quickly, and from what he's said in various interviews, it seems as if he himself is getting tired of the project. But the cool thing about him, is that he is hesitant to just give up DC because of all the love fans have for them/him. Which I think is pretty damn awesome.

But, um ... yeah. I'm sorry, but I think he's awful live. Like ... woo. Dying cats have sounded better.

Truth is, I've never heard him live, and it's quite possible he sucks. But his recorded stuff is killer.

Besides, he couldn't be any worse than Avril.

I'm not an Avril fan by any means, but I think I'd rather listen to her.

I like one Further Seems Forever song, but it's a cover, so it doesn't count.

Dashboard Confessional is pretty good. I have The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most and the new one, A Mission. A Mark. A Brand. A Scar. Or something like that. Anyways, both are good. The newest one came with a DVD that has live studio and concert footage on it. He's OK live...but really not the best. I'd rather listen to the recorded stuff.

I just heard of him less than two weeks ago. (I live in a small town full of small minds) I've only heard a few songs but they sound pretty good, I like acoustic guitar so it sounds good to me!! lol
