They had Elvis biographys and movies on all week because of the anniversary of his death (very tragic). He was a cutie back in the day...with gorgeous eyes. A lot of his movies (33 of them!) were quite cheesy...but I like the movie 'Viva Las Vegas'. It's quite tragic how he died, really. If only someone had the guts to tell him that he needed to stop and how stupid he was being.
Unfortunetly, no one was brave enough to do so.

Part of it was his eating habits and a big part was his drug use. Wish they'd stop! That's why we lost some great talent over the years, Jimi Hendrix, Dee Dee Ramone, Jim Morrison, and too many others.

About his drug use: All of the drugs he took were prescribed, but what doctor would turn down Elvis Presley? The few that did turn him down, Elvis would just find another doctor to prescribe him what he wanted. Also Elvis had a book that had all the ingredients, side effects, and causes for using the drug, which Elvis memorized. This made him feel safe about taking the pills. For example, in a day, he might take a dexadrine (an "upper") or 2 to help his grogginess go away, then if this gave him a headache or anything he would take some pain killers. Elvis had a fear of insomnia because of some experiences he had when he was younger. So at night, he might take up to 4 sleeping pills, a combination of different ones, to help him fall and keep asleep throughout the night. But these made him sleep an unusually long time, say 14 hours, then he would start his drug cycle all over again the next day. As he got older he started to experiment with other drugs, and he liked to get high to escape from the pressures of his enormous fame. Those who were brave enough to say anything to him about his drug use got screamed at, had things thrown at them, and once or twice, a gun pulled. Elvis didn't think he needed the pills, he thought that anytime he wanted to, he would be able to stop. Also, when he would gain weight, say right before he was going to film a movie, the directors would tell him to lose it. Insert the diet pills. His drug use ultimately led to his death on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42.

He would inflict wounds on himself just so he could go get some perscribed pain killers. And his addiction started when he was in the Army (I think). He was incredibly gorgeous back in the day...and incredibly talented. Too bad he couldn't be incredibly SMART too....
Haha, I also heard that he installed camera all over Graceland (his home) just for his amusement. Lmao...oh, how that cracks me up!

Any truth to the rumour that Elvis Presley's hair was actually blond and he dyed it black. I can't picture a bond Elvis.

Yes, when Elvis was younger he had sandy blonde hair. He dyed his hair black I believe right after he got back from Germany.

I was listening to a Beatles show on the radio this week and they did a very tasty version of Elvis' Blue Suede Shoes. Very Elvis, but the guitar riff near the end was typical George Harrison and John Lennon greatness. Apparently the Beatles and Elvis met on stage one day, bet that was some good rockin'.

Once, in the 60s, the Beatles went over to Graceland to visit Elvis. At first they just stared and stared and Elvis told them that if they were just going to stare then they could leave because he hoped they could jam together. From what I hear and read, they were really good together!

I'm sure he was but did Elvis have any influence on the Beatles? I know they were influenced by blues music but I wonder if Elvis inspired some of thier musical development.

From what I know, the Beatles sort of idolized Elvis. They looked up to him and his music. Some of there music does sound similar to Elvis' slower songs.

Elvis "has" a new CD out this week, it has a great remake of his, "A Little Less Conversation." A British group took the song, kept the original tracks and remixed more intstruments in there, it's a great jam.
