I read this series, all four books. I wasn't deeply interested in it, I just wanted to see what eventually happened, and get points for reading them for school.
I got bored with them after a while... They just went on and on and on. I think the entire story could have been shorter; Caroline B. Cooney just dragged it on way too long.

OMG. I remember reading that in 5th grade. I love it. The movie is great too, but I like the book better ;D.
I'd read it again if I really wanted to.. But I also want to get 'The Voice On The Radio', because isn't that, like, a sequeal?? Well, I want it anyway. ;D

^Voice on the Radio is the 3rd one. Whatever Happened to Janie is the 2nd book and What Janie found is the 4th one.
I've read all of them. The first 2 I really liked. The 3rd one I thought was all right...and I didn't particularly care for the last one. Like Completely Incomplete said, caronline b. cooney just dragged the story out too long.

I love Caroline B. Cooney, but I always forget to buy more of her books. I began reading The Face on the Milk Carton, but it's just not too good when you've already seen the movie. It's just a big spoiler.
The books I've read of hers are Drivers Ed and...and that one about fire and racism. Crap, I can't remember the name, but it's really good.
I love them both. She's awesome, but I just can't get too into the Janie series.
Question: What are the sequels about? I mean, wasn't most of it resolved in the first book? How much more is there for Janie to find out?
Oh yeah, the book about fire and racism was called Burning Up. Very good.

I really liked the series, but if I suggested this to someone I would only have them see the first two. I really don't think the last two are necessary unless you *must* know every detail of Janie's life, but The Face On The Milk Carton and Whatever Happened To Janie? were the ones that really kept the original storyline, if I make any sense.
On a side note, I lurved that boy who liked Janie. How many girls have a cute, sweet, nice boy like him madly in love with them?

^^^Hah, none. Of course, there was that popular guy, Morgan, in Driver's Ed, but he went and stole stop signs...
Don't think I'm making any sense. Tell me someone else has read that book.
