What do you like to do the most, and why? What are your favorite ways to make and create. Why do you do this, and is it an extension of yourself? What does art mean to you? Let's discuss it here, anything and everything to do with art. Artistic expression, dance, music, photography, not the writing itself, but why do you write stories and poetry.

I am such an artistic person. I'm pretty well rounded as far as artistic abilties go.
I enjoy writing. Short stories, poems, essays, anything. I've been told I have a way with words. I speak pretty well, and, not to be conceited, but I really believe I have a broader vocabulary than most of my peers. Poetry is my favorite way of writing. I prefer painting a picture with words rather than paints and a brush. It's like a game, trying to take your feelings and describing them with emotions and color, in such a vivid manner. I have a poetry thread here, so you can see how I work, if you would like to check it out. (shameless plug)
More than anything I love performing.
Singing is great, since it's something that's rewarding. You have to practice constantly, but eventually your time pays off. I've been taking voice lessons for a while, and I remember one day it just clicked and my ability really improved. Someone who can sing has a great gift, since it's rare, and takes a combination of natural talent and training.
I love dancing, too. I think dance (preferably ballet) is such a beautiful art form. I don't know how else to describe it. The fluid motions of the dancers can just keep you mesmerized. I've been dancing jazz for three years, but I'm only in my fourth week of ballet. I know whenever I'm moving, and whenever I'm on stage, I feel so graceful. It's a really beautiful gift if you have the right training.
Acting is my passion! There's something wonderful about someone who can take words written on a paper, and put them to actions, and completely change their true character while they're on stage to become someone else. There are so many emotions you can convey while being on stage. The possibilities of how you can use your talent are endless.

It's not concieted to say how well you use words. It is a talent--and alot of hard work to get there. I've read the poetry here and it's very good, if only because it's real and lets the reader into the minds of the writers. For me, I like all sorts of drawing and painting, photography, and writing stories. Being able to create something out of paint and paper. Or taking the jumble of thoughts in my mind and putting them down on paper together and telling a story.

I'm a very artistic person when it comes to some things, like music. Music is probably my deepest passion, and one of my few talents (aren't I just so nice to myself?). Music gives meaning to my life and just gives everything significance. I love to sing, and I'm getting really good @ it (sorry, I know that sounds really conceited). I was in chorus all through middle school, and a few times in elementary school. In 8th grade I auditioned and was accepted into the ACDA Western Division National Honor Choir. That was huge for me. I've had several solos and other honors before, but that was an amazing experience. My voice and confidence in my voice improved so much. I also taught myself how to play piano, and I play pretty well now - better than some of my friends who have taken lessons for years. I want to learn to play the guitar as well...I'm saving up my money, my parents said they'd pay half for me to get one and take lessons. I'm hoping to have enough money by the time field hockey season is over, because then I'll actually have time to take lessons. I've learned a couple chords from my friend, and I caught on pretty quickly. I cannot for my LIFE write poetry - I've tried over and over again, I just *can't*. I do write songs, though, and those are definitely an extension of me. I write honestly, I don't censor myself, and I just put my raw feelings on paper. I have a Song Lyrics thread in Poetry too if anyone's interested...hehe, shameless self promotion. I'm artistic in other ways too, but music is my biggest talent. I like to paint, do ceramics, act, dance, and write stories and stuff. I'm a very artistic person.

/\ Hey, if you ever need help or pointer writing or drawing, let me know. <<I cannot for my LIFE write poetry - I've tried over and over again, I just *can't*. I do write songs, though>> Okay, but isn't writing lyrics the same as writing poetry? Are you more into writing the melody itself, rather than the words?

Well, you're right. Song writing - the lyrics @ least - *is* a type of poetry. But I mean the type of poetry like you see in the Poetry forum...I don't know how to describe it, but I can't write like that. I need the structure of song to be able to write good lyrics - you know, the rhymes and the specific way the words have to flow. I have to have both things - the music *and* lyrics for it to come out right. Hopefully that makes some sense. Thanks, I just might take you up on that. ;D

/\ You do that, and you know where to find me. <<But I mean the type of poetry like you see in the Poetry forum...I don't know how to describe it, but I can't write like that. I need the structure of song to be able to write good lyrics >> So do you write the melodies to your songs, too? Or is it that you know this is a song, and that's what makes writing the lyrics easier since it will be sung and not spoken?

Yeah, most times I write the melody to it, and then an accompanying instrumental part as well. Although I have to admit I don't do this *every* time, sometimes I just leave them as is, it really depends on how strongly I feel about the song. So, yes, it makes it easier because you have the structure of the exact places where things will be, and you have the melody to go by. If that makes sense.

So you write both the music and the words, that's doubly cool!

Dancing is my passion. I have been in it for a long time, 10 years, and I am just now beginning to understand the stories behind it.
As for singing, well besides singing in the shower and in the car to my favorite songs, I don't think I could ever do it in front of anybody. ;D But, I do have good rythym (sp.?) hence my dancing and my talent for instruments.
