Do you use charcoal... pencil... pen...? What are your favorite things to draw? I use pen when I'm at school when I draw in classes I'm suppose to be learning in. I use pencil at home when I feel the urge to. And I use charcoal when I feel like doing something really nice that I want to spray over and keep. I like to draw horses, abstract, flowers, and fruit baskets. I draw lots of other things to but those are what I like the most.

I usually use a pencil and I like to do still lifes and 1 point perspectives. I also like to just do 3D boxes, it's easy and I'm good at it, so it makes me feel like I can draw good, lol. I guess I'm not really that bad at drawing, I just like to make up my drawings as I go.

I like conti-crayon, acrylic and oil paint, pencil, gouache (gwash, a thick watercolor) pen and ink, and colored ink.
I like to design spaceships and land vehicles. I'm trying to learn to draw people. I good at still-lifes and perspective drawing. Someday I want to learn airbrush or Corel-draw

My writing utensil depends on what I want to draw. If I'm doing quick, cartoony or anime drawings, I use pen. Landscapes, portraits, and still lifes are usually done in pencil. I love the look of charcoal, but I'm left-handed so it always gets smeared.

I usually use pencil, and I like to draw (realistic) people. It doesn't matter if it's a portrait or the whole person. Sometimes I like to draw cartoony people ;D and sometimes landscapes. ~*Esther*~

i usually draw w/ pencil, it allows me to make mistakes.. BUt i choose to draw w/ pen because it's more real and unrehearsed. Every line goes where it was meant to go and even if it was a mistake, it's still part of the picture. =) monkey...kittenette is humoring me by being my friend. and Popcorn is just too cool.www.coffee-ink.com/amtrack <- go there.

I use pencil the most. I think it was like 2 years ago, when my dad gave me this like...thing where you learn how to draw super heroes and villians. I've been thinking about it just recently (since I saw Spiderman)lolZ......My favorite thing to draw,I guess would have to be something that I can draw......You know those 'Archie comics'?? I usually get those sometimes and look through them (After Ive read them of course ) And draw them. They've all turned out good too.. ~~~~~~Heather,(Edward Furlong,Mike Shinoda,Chester Bennington,KidRoc & Joe C. LOVER!!!!!! Linkin Park RULES!!!!!!)

I used mostly just plain old pencils. Sometimes a little chalk pastles or charcoal. I like 2d mostly. I like drawing people from pictures but 3d objects are okay. I hated art in middle school. Then in high school i dropped drama and had to go into an art class. I loved it! I started drawing a lot and then my mom brought home me Sister Wendy's visits to museums in the US. Now i'm in love with art.

*sigh* I'm not the greatest....the only thing I can do well is bubble letters and shading and designing logos and stuff like that...I didnt get my dads talent. He's a pro artist...he can draw anything...one time for christmas he drew this picture of deer and bison in the forest because my grandpa went hunting and took a picture of the bison and deer and so my dad just looked at it and painted it and gave it to him..it was awesome. And my brother can paint and draw too...it's really cool...but.. ya that talent didnt drop my way sadly Note: I think it was bison...lol...I'm stupid...

A Quick Primer On Drawing.
One of the first things to know when drawing is to break things down into simple shapes. If you can draw a foreshortened tube or log, you can draw a finger. If you can draw a square, and you can, then you can draw the palm of a hand. Get the idea? If you can draw a pail or bucket looking from underneath, you’ll soon be able to draw someone, head turned up and looking into the sky.
Here’s how it works. A child, say about five years old is proportionate to about five of her heads tall. A child about ten-years-old, is about 5 ½ to six heads tall. A full grown adult is eight heads tall. Measure yourself, your hand, heel of palm to tip of middle finger, will always be the same length as your face. A person’s outstretched arms, from finger tip to finger tip will be equal to the person’s height. At rest, the person’s fingers will reach just past the waist. On a child, the shoulders are one and one half heads wide. On an adult, the shoulders are two heads wide.
On some people the corners of the mouth will be just under the pupils of the eye, if not, it will reach to just under the inner corners of the eye. A smile will not go that much further. Be aware of the muscles under the skin. Once I had real trouble drawing a child’s profile. I imagined, and drew what I thought her skull would look like. This allowed me to place everything better, and she was beautiful.
In a profile, the top of the ear will line up with the top of the eyebrow and the earlobe will line up with the upper lip, or the space between the upper lip and nose. Here’s another interesting bit of anatomy. A baby’s eyes will be the same size when a full grown adult. Eyes look “bigger” because of the orbits. Draw the eye with a little bit of tissue over it or the face will have a dead or surprised look. Eyelashes stick out and are to be drawn very subtle, if at all. For some reason my people look angry if I draw the natural inward tilt of eyebrows so I always draw them a little bit titled up.
As to the face, draw and oval shape. Now draw a line across it. If you’re trying to draw a child, drop the eyes below the line. As the person grows, the eyes move up closer to the middle between the top and bottom of the shape. If the face is that of an adult, line up the eyes with the line. The top of a child’s head is proportionately larger than an adult’s head.
People are different, but this will remove some of the mystery of how to draw them. The same goes for animals. Think of a horse’s head as a series of squares, a cat might be more rounded. Draw an oval on it’s side, fill it in as a cup, turn the oval on its edge, now you can finish it into a car’s tire. The key is to look and observe what you are drawing. Break it down into shapes. A hand looks like a square with five small tubes coming off it. The same with the legs.
A torso and head can be a rectangle with an oval shape. If the person is kneeling on the floor, foreshorten the legs, make them tubes instead. Now fill in the details. You might not be perfect, but you will get better, and while you get better, you will get more pleasure out of drawing, and some of that pleasure comes from when you just drew something better than you did last time.
Enjoy!

That's great advice, One Big Rush! I have a booklet on drawing faces based on the width of one eye (it's kind of complicated, but everything comes down to the measure of an eye) which I will type up/scan in if anyone would like it. ~Mike
