flamenco dancing is:
"Flamenco combines acoustic guitar playing, singing, chanting, dancing and staccato handclapping. The flamenco dancer performs with passion, fervor, even tortured expressions but always striving for grace and dignity.
The guitar — there may be one or several — and the rapid rhythmic handclapping of the singers and dancers set the scene.
Flamenco handclapping produces a sharp, almost piercing sound. Those performers not dancing or guitar playing hold the left arm still. Its bent at the elbow with the hand about neck high and just slightly cupped. The fingers of the right hand slap the left crosswise, covering the hollow.
Try it yourself. If your fingers do not land squarely, the clap is dull, flat. When they hit just right, you’ll hear it.
The dancer does not begin immediately, but waits, absorbing the strumming, clapping and singing until inspired to dance.
Like American jazz, flamenco dancing involves improvisation. Its the dancer’s spontaneous expression of the moment’s emotions. The Spanish call it duende (DWEN-day). The word means goblin or fairy, but to the flamenco dancer it signifies an inner force that fuels an inspired performance.
A dancer with duende goes beyond technical mastery to vent his or her feelings, achieving a powerful, compelling dance. Those who aren’t singing may shout encouragement: olé or ¡baile! ¡baile! — dance! dance! As an observer, you don’t really see good flamenco, you feel it."

I just started a hip-hop class (just for the summer) and it's so much fun! I have to admit, when I first went in, I expected it to be kind of pointless, but I learned a lot of great moves, in just one class so far! I was surprised how big the Jazz influence was... A lot of the moves, and most of the warm-ups reminded me of what we did in my jazz class. I suggest signing up for hip hop if you're looking for something new (it's not the best for building technique, such as ballet and jazz, but it's a fun freeform dance), and want to show off at school dances. Think "Save the Last Dance" booty-shaking. I need an opinion... I'm almost 15, and this year will be my 3rd year in jazz. Is it okay to start ballet at this age? I know most ballet dancers start early in life, so is it almost useless to start now? I'm not looking to rush into pointe or become a professional, I just think it's a beautiful dance form and I'd like to try it.

LisaRocksTheWorld, no, it's not to late to try. I took dance, including ballet, for ten years, and quit right before high school started, because of financial and time reasons. But not everyone starts early. Even some famous dancers, although it's odd not too. But I don't think you're trying to become a famous NYC Ballerina, so it wont matter anyway. Yes, I suggest ballet to you. It will make you graceful and beautiful. Well, more graceful and beautiful. Its an experience every girl should have, so go for it. They have classes for beginners at your age, and even older. Yes, do it!!!! Good luck and keep dancing.

I have always wanted to to take dance, but I would have no idea what to try and I dunno if they have any dance studios around here. I'm also taking horseback riding lessons and I dunno if we would have enough $$ to do both. So yeah... I was on the school dance/drill team last year and it was soooo much fun. I love performing, and I love dancing so the two put together was great. I loved it

I took Ballet for four years, I enjoyed it although I wasn't all that good. (looking back at video for back then I also took jazz for a year, I ended up quiting both because of financial and time reasons.
