LMAO...holy temple of evolution....yeah i guess its kinda like 'idiot-atheism'....almost a religion in its own anti-religion connotations. i studied up on the why there are still apes thing: say bongo and congo are primitive 'apes'. bongo moves to australia, and congo to africa. bongo's offspring evolve into the 'better-adapted' human species. while congo's offspring evolve into the better adapted to their place monkeys of today or so i understood evolution is just conveniently convenient (keeping in mind i'm the daughter of a biology teacher and an engineering prof. i knew about darwin's finches in grade 2, and my religious beliefs don't oppose evolution, so i didn't even know it was a theory. i always assumed it was the truth ;D ) and the water mammal theory, it was a crack theory that humans evolved from water mammmals b/c of our similarities (or that humans were ONCE water dwelling creatures) such as: an even layer of subcutaneous fat -- like blubber, almost no body hair, and the ones that are there generally grow in the same direction -- umm...what else, there were other things, oh yeah, the ability to hold our breaths, and how our nostrils are facing 'down' so ...wait i forgot, thats supposed to have some significance but i don't remember. anywhoo, it was interesting enough, but rapidly dismissed. it was a whole article in a book i have on wierd science. *~ el pobito

<<how our nostrils are facing 'down' so ...wait i forgot, thats supposed to have some significance>> That's a good thing because if we sneezed--what a mess.

I've always thought evolution had truth in it. One of my friends (family friend) is a science teacher at the community college. He says that not everyone accepts the theory, and it's not the truth, and you can't *believe* it, because it's a theory. You just accept theories. And he says that every time.
Anyway, it's all very very possible. Humans are primates. Monkeys are primates. Humans are just more intelligent. If you're saying 'Why are there still apes if humans evolved from them?'... Well, everything evolved from something else, right? Why not just ask, 'Why aren't there only humans left?' If everything evolved from something, there would be nothing left, save humans. No cute little kittens (I like kittens), no bears, or frogs, or anything. So it's no use asking why there are still apes. There just are.
I don't know so much about evolution, but I support it, and I'd like to know more about it.

"I can see how there's micro-evolution, when plants and animals adapt to survive, but humans evolving from primates?"
^^ i do believe that 'micro-evolution' is true. actually, i agree with evolution in general but i DO NOT think that humans evolved from primates! because of my religion i believe that everyone is created by God. i mean God created us all but we do, in a way, 'evolve'.

For me, evolution just is. Although I agree that there are various theories about how evolution specifically takes place.
I do think the humans & "apes" (generally speaking) evolved from a similar ancestor. The fact that we look nothing like them is a completely ridiculous argument in my personal view. If one really takes a good long look & studies the behaviours & expressions of chimpanzees & bonobo's then there's a lot of similarities.
For one example, I recently watched a lot of episodes of "Monkey Business" on the National Geographic Channel. There was one scene where this young chimp ran up an adult female to be hugged. The way this chimp was holding this child chimp was exactly like a human would. The way they are so expressive with their eyes & mouth, their way of communicating, the way they move, the way the hold onto things...it's just so incredibly "human" to me.
I also think that evolution by no means has to conflict with religion...but yeah, that's just my opinion.
