<<but then what exactly can scientists actually prove? >>
They can only explain HOW, not WHY.
I do have one problem with theories, and that's because we have to except them as fact and too bad if you don't. Evolution, that is micro-evolution, takes place all the time. But I don't buy the notion that one species is replaced by another. In other words a dog doesn't have a puppy and it's a giraffe.
Take the Big-Bang THEORY. Supposedly a small speck of something exploded and that's how we got the universe as we know it today. From a religious standpoint that might work, but even so, it would render a lot religious principles moot, no matter what you believed in. The problem with the Big Bang is that we're supposed to believe that all the matter in the universe came from a dot the size of this ==> .
I don't care what anyone says, even if you squished the life out of planet Earth so that every possible atom was compressed, you might have something the size of a bowling ball. But there's still planets and moons in our solar system. Then you have gasses, stars, moons, planets, asteroids, comets, and other galaxies.
The total weight of these things would look rediculous if written out. Where did this matter come from? Logically, the Big Bang does not work, because, "Matter can nether be created or destroyed." Right? So where did all this come from?

i love science . science gives me a reason to exist. knowledge may not be power, but it sure is beauty. and i think that science is what defines humanity...that we have gone past living for survival, but we live now for knowledge. as for whether i believe...well i'm not sure. i don't fully know, so i can't tell you i believe. i need to know the theories to the fullest extent before i can say i believe. and i can't say i agree w/ the people who say science conflicts with their beliefs. maybe some science...but all? i believe in the big bang theory completely, and i completely believe that god created the universe. how? i believe that god comprises of everything, everything that is, will be, was, and isn't. *~pobo-scampers-off-to-amnesty-once-again

its not do you believe, more like do u think its correct.....i think for us to really understand life, the universe etc we need both religion and science to compliment eachother not one or the other, it would be pointless if you went on pure faith because you would never be curious or willing to change and if you went on pure science things would advance too fast and we could have technology we would abuse and use imorally

The first sentence rocks! Jared20, you DO plan on staying here for the long term, right?

Physicists don't believe in science, they know it's the right method.

I personally believe almost all of science. Some things, like the creation of the Universe (big bang), I am a little weirded out about. Now, as far as a gigantic black hole in the middle of the Milky Way? Hell yeah, I believe it. How would you have a rotating galaxy without one?
Now, when it comes down to genetic theories about relation between species, I believe it. There are the genetic markers. Everything is related to something else and everything compliments everything. If animals did not compliment other animals, you would not have the ecological balance that we have today.
Okay ... Creationism ... I think I may step on a few nerves here, but here is what I gotta say. In the Bible (don't ask me where), it says that God's days are different from ours. Seven days for God could be billions of years in the human time table. So do I think Earth was created in seven days, sure. Just not seven human days.
My religious ideas lean more towards a Deist fashion. God is a clockmaker and left the human race (his clock) to work on its own and only step in to fix it when it breaks (human race becomes extinct or really bad sh** happens). I also think that God gave us knowledge to help better ourselves and to see past the religious texts so as not to stay in the Stone Age.
