No offense to any PETA supporters out there, but they just go too far. They try to make their point through shock, but it just ends up hollow and dirty. The worst thing about their means of getting their point across is that it could have been such a great organization. Yes, their goals are nobel and would be a wonderful thing to participate in...but at what cost? At this cost : www.masskilling.com/exhibit.html ? I don't know that I could ever associate myself with a group who thought that that ad was an okay way to market their cause. And yes, it IS marketing. Am I the only one who sees this as wrong? Do you think holocaust victims would be okay with the comparison? I cannot even begin to fathom how they managed to do such a blatant job of minimalizing the deaths of hundreds of thousands.

wow.
i don't even know what to say about this.
this is one of the most disgusting uses of propaghanda that i have ever seen. the holocaust has no relation to animals. this is just... disgusting.
PETA needs to learn when they've gone (way) too far.
i think it's terribly, terribly wrong.

Hmmm...man, I do not know what to say. I usually fully support PETA- I have been a vegetarian for over 2years now because of them and feel a lot better for it (Im not meaning to offend any meat eaters, it is a personal choice)...but this ad...hmm. I understand what they are trying to do, and they want to make a bold statement about it but I will have to go against the little animal activist inside me and say that this kind of propaganda is pushing the limit. PETA should find ways of supporting and advertising their beliefs in new and shcoking ways that don't offend so many people. :oinsane

Actually, I don't have a problem with the ad. I mean, I can understand how many people would--they would feel like it was using the name of the Holocaust in vain, right? But I think the ad does its job remarkably well--it makes you think, it makes you sad, it makes you want to be better. Well, me, anyway. ~Mike

Actually, no - the ad didn't make me think. The ad didn't make me sad. And the ad sure as hell didn't make me want to better myself. All it did was make me disreguard PETA as a credible organization and turn away. And not just me - so many people have taken offense to PETA's minimalizing of death, that they've had to set up an automated response to all the emails they're getting. And that's not all PETA's been up to. How about their fatphobic views? www.size-acceptance.org/peta.htmlAnd the newest ad targets women. Something to the effect of "Round around the waist? Go vegetarian!" First off, it really sucks that they're trying to shame people into taking their cause. Second, it's extremely offensive. Third, vegetarian does not equal weight loss. Yes, it works for some people, but not all. In fact, PETA gets emails all the time from those overweight who have tried their ways and it's done nothing. But that's not the point. The point is that it is disgusting that they'd used something as person like that to further their goals. The saddest thing is this organization - the only way they can make a point is through shock. They can't make credible points in a civilized way. Hmm...wonder what they says about them. Oh, but just so you know, that wasn't an attack on you! Just PETA and their non-existent ethics.

The Holocaust was the systematic massacre of an entire group of people. We kill animals because we need to eat in order to survive. Of course, there are ways around that now, but there's a HUGE difference between a concentration camp and a farm. PETA has gone WAY too far on this one. Oh, and they also paid for the defense of a man who blew up an animal-testing building. Against violence? Yeah right!

*shudder*
They're so......self-righteous. As if eating meat is the main cause of obesity...and they're experts on it.
Don't get me wrong, I love animals and am vegetarian 95% of the time, but all they seem to do is alienate and name-call.

I'm not appreciating the new anti-fat campaign. Mostly because it's full-on lies (vegetarianism is, as you've all said, not a losing-weight-diet but a political diet) and also because as a fat girl, I'm not cool with society's "mistakes" being blamed on me/us. Eff those PETA people, man. ~Mike

I don't "appreciate" either campaign. PETA has no values. What they're trying to do is get people where it hurts, by bringing up issues such as the Holocaust, which was a very tragic event, where hundreds of thousands of people were killed, and trivialize it by relating it to cows being made into hamburgers, which may be sad and all but it's not even in the same league as the Holocaust.
And as for the "fat" thing, well honestly that's not much of an issue for me, but I know that a clear majority of people finds such remarks offensive, and stupid. Also, there's the whole issue of people who are insecure enough to do whatever the media tells them, so...
yeah. Tacky marketing gimmicks at their finest.
