well seeing no one appears to have posted an original message, I thought I'd start us off:
Do you volunteer? When, where, and, most importantly, why?

I would really like to help out in my community but there aren't too many places that I think I could go to help....

well, i help out at a local food pantry and a soup kitchen whenever i can or when they need help (i go on holidays like christmas a lot), and i tutor at a community centre after school 3-4 days a week. i do a lot of stuff on the side whenever i can too. there aren't many places around here where you can help unless you sort of take it upon yourself to do something.

I'm a peer tutor, but I'd like to get involved in the community more.
It kind of gets on my nerves when people are required to do community service for something, whether it's a school activity or church group or whatever. It seems like it's not "voulnteering" when you're forced to do it.

Yup! I volunteer through my church..its not always the funnest jobs...the last work I did, I ended up working in the freezing rain It was bad..but this summer I'm going to volunteer at the hospitol. I'll be reading to little kids and helping them with art to keep their minds off of what they're in for. Its really fun...'specially since I love little kids!

We have to do 75 hours of community service to graduate at my school. I actually like it...makes sure we give back to the community, cheesy as that sounds. I do a lot of work on the NYC Anti-Youth Smoking Coalition...I'm a member of Reality Check (dunno know if y'all have heard of it; it's kinda like Truth, if you know that group), I sit on the board of NYC health department directors, etc. And I worked in Costa Rica this past summer (going to Ecuador with the same program next summer)-- 60 hours total. ;D Love, ~The Kitten~

last summer i volunteered to be a counselor at a vacation bible school. it was for two weeks and it was a lot of fun. the kids were the greatest and it make you feel good to know you helped others.

I wish there were more places to volunteer and help out here, but there aren't. I'm going to help out at the abandoned children's ward in the hospital when my summer vacations begin. Other that I campaign for the WWF. Does that count?

[glow=pink,2,300]I volunteer a LOT at the YMCA. Doing whatever, I've done a homework helpers thing, many holiday camps, lifeguarding parties or at events, coaching volleyball teams, etc.[/glow]
