Well I haven't held a protest, but I've been to one here in Montreal. It was an anti-war protest, led by students. VERY peaceful, nothing bad happened, we just waited around for one of the schools to decide to walk out for what seemed like forever (but was really only an hour and a half). Walked several blocks, picketed outside the armery and the U.S. consulate (and no pepper spray was used!), listened to some bands, smoked some weed (very common at protests) and cheered loudly. Again, nothing bad happened, no fights with police or anything. It was very peaceful, and I think it made a great point.

I've never actually been involved in a protest, but when I went to San Fransisco in October 2002, I got off BART in the middle of a anti-war protest, It was baiscally a parade down a street and there was people with signs and chants and stuff, Pretty peaceful the police were watching for violence but there wasn't any that I know of It was interesting to see.
