Are guys "allowed" to hit girls?

this is a subject that i noticed has seemed to spur different answers. so, what do you think? under what conditions can a guy hit a girl? can a guy even hit a girl at all?

I don't think a guy should ever hit a girl. SAame with girls should never hit a guy. There's no reason why they should. I mean if they were playing around and weren't hurting each other,then I guess (ie flirting ) But when it comes to violence,there is no reason for them to be hit. If they get mad,theres no reason they should take it out on their girl.

I don't think guys should hit girls in any case and the same with girls (in abusive cases, of course).  But if a girl does hit a guy...I believe that the guy has a right to hit her back, same with the girl.

I think it really depends on the situation.

If a girl is trying to harm the guy in any way he has the right to protect himself. Same as a girl.

i think guys shouldnt be able to hit girls. even if i girl hits them guys should never hit a girl. if i girl were to really piss me off i wouldnt hit her i be mature abt it and walk away

I don't think violence is ever the answer for anyone.  A guy shouldn't hit a girl, another guy, a monkey, an indian chief, anyone!  

I'm all for self-defense though.  If a male is hit by a female, I believe he has the right to hit her back if he is physically in danger.  The same goes if he is hit by another male.  I don't think women really fit into the whole "weak and helpless" stereotype anymore.

As a person who has been in an abusive relationship, I don't think that it's ok to hit anyone.  It's not alright for guys to hit girls, and it's not alright for girls to hit guys either.  However, I think that it is completely justifiable in self-defense.

I agree with those who said that it's allowed in cases of self-defense. Hitting is bad no matter what, but in cases of self-defence, it's allowed. You never know when you'll need to defend yourself.

Hitting anyone is *illegal* unless justified.

Justified is when self-defense is needed.  But a justified act is only justified if you do only what is needed to protect yourself.  Knocking an attacker down and then continuilly stomping them would most likely not be justified.  However some schools, including my own, punish any students involved in fighting,  justified or not justified.

I dont know, I mean I guess a guy could hit a girl if he felt he was in physical danger, but it should be discouraged.  I mean lets face it, guys "fight" eachother more often, while us girls tend to play out our sometimes violents tendencies in different ways.

I think that is wrong.  Why should someone be punished for self-defense?  Being able to defend yourself is a natural right.

A lot of schools have rules like this, and I think it's just wrong.  Everyone should have the right to defend him or herself.  Some schools have even more ridiculous rules.  My cousin told me that where he went to high school, you get suspended if you are involved in a fight, even if you don't fight back.  So that means if someone starts beating the crap out of you, you get suspended too, because you were involved.  Is that retarded or what?  Some schools are so screwed up.

^^ Ugh, I know what you mean on the school rules... My friend got suspended for 10 days because some guys beat the crap out of him. He didn't throw one punch back. He still got suspended. Teachers even saw the whole thing, and they knew he didn't hit anyone. Why should he get punished? I say he was already punished enough, they broke his nose and gave him a black eye. He's really strong, and diffenately coulda fought back and won, but he didn't, and still got in trouble. Jeesh... Some people...

I don't really think anyone should hit anyone, reguardless of their sex. But, it someone says a girl can hit a guy, but a guy can't hit the girl back. That's basically saying, the girl can't take it. I know a lot of pretty damn tough chicks who could take a lot of guys. I just think guys shouldn't hit girls, because they shouldn't hit anyone. They shouldn't not hit them, just because they're a girl. Same way swithed. I see no need for any violence.

I think that under certain conditions, it is ok. I've been in an abusive relationship, so I know what it's like to be in one...

I think that if a girl hits a guy, it's ok, but even then they don't have the right to beat the crap out of her...just enough to defend themselves...

Actually, I think if I hit a guy and they didn't fight back, I'd be offended...the whole weaker sex thing...

I don't think in any case a guy should hit a girl or a girl should hit a guy. Unless its like playful hitting/flirting or they are defending themsevles. If you are in that kind of relationship you have to get out as soon as you can, or call someone. I think its totally wrong.
