Why can't someone have pepperspray in school no more? It's something to defend yourself with, with school shootings going on and stuff it really sucks!!! Do you think it is right or wrong to have pepperspray taken to school with you?

It really depends how and under what circumstances it is used.
If you're using it because a strange attacks you from behind and threatens to kill you with a knife, well, duh, that's a situation where using mace or pepper spray is undisputed. But, if you're using it just for fun, for no reason, you're not using it very wisely.
Self-defence devices are used for self-defence. As long as people follow the guideline, I think they should be allowed to be used, in school or out.

Well using pepper spray isn't neccessary in schools. If someone comes up behind you and attacks you. you scream and you instantly have all the help you need. They can't let people take pepper spray because not all people are trust worthy enough and it can be considered a weapon if used a certain way.

I think it's kinda unnecessary. I mean, if someone's going to come up and stab you, he's not going to say, "hey, why don't I give you time to get out your pepperspray so you actually stand a chance". Most likely you'll be down on the ground so quick your reflexes wouldn't be that great.
As for protecting yourself in school shootings, just because the person can't see, doesn't mean he doesn't know where the trigger is. He can still shoot.

It could definately be used as a weapon. Someone could bring up the same argument by carrying a knife to school, saying it was to defend themselves just in case anything happens. We're better banning all questionable things, because in a school, there is always help nearby. For every 100 people who would carry pepper spray to school, 99 of those people would probably be using it for self defense. However, it's the other 1% that would use it in harmful ways, therefore making it banned for everyone.

That's like bringing a gun or a knife to school. It can potentially be just as dangerous. Forget school shoot outs... Lets use pepper spray instead! If every student brought it to school as 'defense' I highly doubt that anyone would actually be using it for that reason... Except, maybe, for defense aginst someone spraying pepper spray at them! Wouldn't that be just great for schools... I mean, schools are for learning. Not pepperspray. Pepper spray is for the police. Plus, school shootings are mostly caused by bullies. Well, then maybe if everyone could stop their bullying like everyone wants we wouldn't have shootings then we could actually go to school to learn. Anway, back on topic... No, pepperspray should not be aloud in schools under the students supervision.

Well, I think if someone feels the need to actually bring something like pepperspray to school, there is definitely something wrong. It should be brought to a school official right away. You should feel safe in your school, and not even have thoughts of things like that in your mind..
Plus, teenagers are idiots sometimes. Really.. They're immature. I wouldn't want to see what some of the people would do if they got their hands on that and brought it to school. I don't think they'd make all the right decisions about it, and it wouldn't really be used for the correct purpose.

I really don't think people should be allowed to have pepper spray with them at school. There's so many people at schools, that if something is happening where you need to defend yourself, all you gotta do is yell or something, and a teacher or someone else will come. And I think too many people would use it for something besides self defense.

Hope you don't mind me asking... but have any of you actually experienced shootings in your school?
Probably not... which doesn't mean you shouldn't have defense, but remember America is a huge country, and it's not like shootings happen every day.
I'm not sure whether pepper spray is even legal in England, where I live. I know America has lots more crime and violence in schools than we do, but I reckon the most sensible thing to do is to take away anything that would be you would attacked... that means, not publicly carrying your mobile/cell phone, not making big attention of yourself, etc.. Pepper spray might defend you a little, but not totally.
Legalising pepper spray is like America saying they're giving into violence in schools. America would do better by educating that violence is wrong, rather than providing pepper spray.
Obviously, I don't know the full situation, we hear hardly anything about pepper spray in our schools.

I don't think that students should be able to bring pepperspray to school. Most of the students would just be playing around with it, spraying other kids all of the time. I also agree with the fact that in school's you wouldn't really need to use pepperspray, because of all the people around.

Pepper spray and mace are both illegal where I live. The only people who can use them are the police. I'm not sure where I stand on this issue. On the one hand, there is the issue of personal freedom and freedom to defend ourselves. On the other hand, pepper spray has the potential to be very dangerous. So I'm not really sure about this...

No. Pepperspray should not be allowed in school and I think that it should even be made illegal. Why would you need it at school? Yes, theres always a chance of a shoot out but what are the chances. And as theLadyMadonna pointed out, you probably wouldn't have anytime to grab your pepperspray in most situations. Students should be taught self-defence without the use of a weapon. I mean, in the case of a dangerous situation, this sort of defence would be much more easier and maybe even more effective compared to pepperspray or mase.

Well, I can understand why.People use the spray not only for defense, to people they dislike, and other things. And second of all were would you keep it?In your backpack?Well now there is the chance of your backpack getting hit and the pepper spray opening spraying itself in your back pack then you open it and the spray gets in your eyes and you have to go to the hospital. It would actually be safer if you didn't have it at school. Just my view, by the way.

I see no reason why pepper spray *should* be allowed in schools. A school is pretty much one of the safest places you could be. I can also imagine that people would abuse it if it were allowed in schools. Whether you want to agree or not, a lot of middle school and high school kids are immature, and would probably not use pepper spray only for self-defense.

Having pepperspray be allowed in schools is just screaming violence. Are we trying to stop violence or are we trying to create it? Those of you who say yes to having pepperspray in schools, just try re-thinking that statement for a moment. A school is suppose to be one of the safest places to be, besides that of your home. So allowing pepperspray is pretty much taking away that safety that we put into our everyday school environment. And I personally think that whoever would let pepperspray onto school grounds has gone retarded. I mean, that's almost like say, 'Okay kids, go ahead and bring your Pa's guns for show & tell!' It's pretty stupid.
