i was in ecology the other day and we were talking about past supreme court cases {for some odd reason}. my teacher said that recently they decided that the teacher doesn't have to let any child, of any age, go to the bathroom. they said this because most of the time the kids would ask in the middle of class and the teacher would forget what they were saying. or, as my teacher said, it would have the 'domeno' effect. one kid would need to go, and then another, and another, and another. so, what do you think? was the supreme court right with this choice? or are they totally out of line?

I think that's crazy! If you need to go to the bathroom you should be able to go. It doesn't take that long. Holding it in for half an hour or however long a class is is not good. Especially with younger kids.

Well, if they don't give kids the right to go to the bathroom when they need to, then they'd better be prepared to mop up the floor. Urinating is something we all have to do, and if a teacher won't let you go to the bathroom then you're going to have to do it somewhere else eventually. Anyway, holding it for more than a half hour is really bad for your bladder. Teachers can be such assholes.

That's absurd. Holding your pee in for too long can cause a really bad infection. It's very dangerous. Peeing is natural, for heaven's sakes, so just let us do it already.

Domino effect?
"Hmm... Billy's urgent urination subconciously filled my bladder. May I be excused?"
My teachers are pretty lenient where this is concerned. The school issues assigned passes, with special blocks for each period, to make sure that a student doesn't go more than once or twice a day *rolls eyes*. But we're told that if it's a real emergency, just get up and go.

When I was in high school, we weren't allowed to use the bathrooms during class. If we had to go, it had to be between classes, and that was extremely hard, because we only had 4 minutes. In a way, I do agree that it shouldn't be allowed. I know a lot of kids who would just say they had to go, just to get out of class, and it was abused, which is why it was eventually banned for us. I don't know how long any of you guys have between classes, but I think that if they don't want you to go during class, they should make the time between classes a little longer. I don't know, I'm sort of torn on the issue, as I can see both the students and the teacher's perspective. This is why college is a lot better - no asking. You can just come and go as you please.

Fyre: our classes are generally 90 minutes long and we have about 5-7 minutes in between each class. and i do agree with you about some kids 'abuse' going to the bathroom. whenever the girls in my grade go, they take their purses, and come back like a 1/2 an hour later with another gallon of make-up on their face! lol. and also, in my school, the teachers mostly don't let another student go until the first student is back. which i understand cuz then the whole class could be out at one time.

that's really stupid. a couple years ago i was going to the bathroom all the time during class - like 5 or 6 times during the school day. my teachers were starting to get on my case but then a couple weeks later we found out i had diabetes. they felt bad then. i think kids should be allowed to go whenever they have to cuz you never know what's going on inside their body.

Whoa, thats what it seems like at my school, though. I mean like last year,me and some of my friends would ask to got to the r/r and then we would wait and someone else would ask and the teacher let us go. But then this year,2 (or 3) of our 4 teachers wont let us go..But I think thats wrong ,cuz one time I had to beg my homeroom teacher cuz I had to **gooooooooooooo**lol... ~~~~~~Heather,(Edward Furlong,Mike Shinoda,Chester Bennington,KidRock & Joe C. [glow=pink,2,300]The teachers have no right to deny a child bathroom privilages. That's just dumb. And un-healthy. If you hold it for so long bacteria starts to build up and it causes infections. If they're worried about the 'domino effect' they need to find a better answer than just saying no. [/glow]

i hate it when teachers say this. holding it in for awhile can be dangerous. it can lead to a kidney infection. i had one when i was 3 or 4, and i almost lost one of my kidneys (thankfully i didn't). i was going through the whole scared-of-the-toilet phase, and i always held my pee in.

I can't believe how insensitive, of all things, the Supreme Court can actually be. Going to the bathroom is not a privalige or a right it is a neccesity. Some people have problems with regularity and it is a shame to think that having a "accident" is more imortant to the Supreme Court than rather to relieving yourself. I don't think that anyone in the Supreme Court would appriciate not having bathroom breaks during sessions.

I can understand this with the Jr. High/High School kids, but with the younger children, I think it's ridiculous! I mean, how could you expect them to really hold it for that long...yeesh. Anyways, our teachers are pretty cool with letting us go to the bathroom. We don't really abuse it, so it's all good.

The Supreme Court is absolutely right that it can have the domino effect. But there has to be a better solution that just saying no, since it is a physical necessity. I think the best solution is more time between classes, but are there enough toilets for everyone in the school to go at the same time? No. Then I guess, when you gotta go, YOU GOTTA GO! Geez!
