Do you have to do a certain amount of community service hours in order to graduate? In Ontario, high school students have to do 40 hours. I've already finished mine, yet I still want to volunteer as much as possible. I thought this thread would be good for those who need ideas on where they can volunteer and such. So those who have already done community service, let us know what kind of organizations you helped or what you DID exactly. I, myself, coached girls softball last summer. Just doing that I received 50-something hours. I also volunteered at another softball-related event and gained another 10 hours or so. And just on Monday earlier this week, I spent 3 hours at a food bank, helping them sort food. Also throughout this school year, I am doing Big Sisters... helping little kids with their homework and such.

In high school we weren't required to do community service, but we were told it really helps when you try to get into college. I would volunteer at the hospital. By the time I graduated high school, I had almost 1000 hours of community service. Now that I am in college, studying nursing, I got certified to be a nurse's aide and making money doing it part-time, so I guess it isn't considered volunteer work anymore. I still volunteer, helping to run the youth group at my church.

I did community service for four of my five years of high school. In grade 7, I didn't do anything due to pure laziness. In grade 8, I volunteered at an elementary school, helping kids with homework and such. From grades 9-11, I volunteered at a senior's home, playing games with the seniors. I also did various community projects and extra-curricular activities at school. Now that I'm in college, I don't have much time to volunteer, but I try to help out when I can, like this past summer at the Maccabi games here in Montreal.

You have to do 75 hours of community service to graduate from my high school, so we all end up doing something. I already finished mine...yeah! I helped at a big track meet, then worked in small villages in Costa Rica and Ecuador for the last two summers. (Next summer: Mexico!) ~Mike
