Just slightly off topic.
.Hey:Now:Girl. is right. Cloud Nine comes from Dante's Inferno. There were 10 Heavens or ten steps to Heaven. Clouds were logical steps and 9 was as close to divine presence as one could get.
Or:
It also comes from a meteorological term. Clouds are classified by height and given a number. Cloud One is a shorter stack of clouds. Cloud Nine are the huge thunder clouds that reach so high they seem to touch the Heavens. You've seen them when the wind rips off the tops and you see that anvil shape. You don't often hear that explanation though.
