I think you can't stop it from happening if the attraction is mutual. If you try to stop it you're going to lose a friend anyways. I think a relationship built on a friendship is as strong as they come. On the other hand if you break up, you've lost yourself a friend. I guess it depends on the couple though. One of my friends is still best friends with her ex. Even though they've moved on they still consider each other their best friend. Works for some I guess...
