I'm sure most of here know you can have icons under your name in posts.  But I believe some of the icons currently being used are Copy Righted.  Any pictures that have Copy Rights on them should not be used for icons.

Oh okay.  Thanks for letting us know.  But how do we know if they're copyrighted?

It should say on the page the pic comes from.  It usually says it at the bottom of page.  Another thing to say; if a pic is copy righted buy says you can use it on sites if you give the publisher credit, you can use that icon and post a link to their site in you sig (see my icon and signature).

My Icon is from a website offering Aol Instant Messenger buddy icons for everyone to use... Would I still need to give the site credit, if I wouldn't need to if I used it as a buddy icon?

You would have to contact AOL on that since I do not know AOL's legal information.  I just don't this board or any users to get into any legal trouble.

Okay, I have a question that maybe somebody can help me out with.

I have a couple of icons that I made myself, that are uploaded to a page of mine, but when I use them [or try to], they come up as "x's." Anyone know why?

Some web host's don't allow direct linking.

I know where to find pics... Some good ones of Joshy but anyway, how do you get them as your icon after you find them? In complete detail please, I'm a dumb brounette.

Right click on the picture of your choice, and on the menu that pops up, choose 'Properties.' Then, it should say something like this: "Address: proboards8.com/boardimages/rolleyes.gif (URL)" <-that's for the rolling eyes smiley faces, for example. Then go into your profile, click "I have my own picture" and paste the website in. Make sure you include all of it! G'luck!

    Mine's legal.  I got it from Cracks Smileys.  They give their icons away, although they do ask that you try to make a donation towards keeping their servers up.

Mine's from my schools website....and like they give a crap.  So it's all good for me.

PS-You can use the icons at Cracks Smileys on message boards only.  In order to use them on personal websites, you have to obtain permission.  I thought I should add that, just in case anyone got the wrong idea.
