I don't know why, but a lot of people at school have a tendency to pick on people that aren't as tan as everyone else. I'm really pasty, and people always call me things like "ghost" and "powder" and though a lot of it's just in jest, sometimes it gets downright insulting. Does anyone else have problems with this?

I used to get that, not as bad but people didn't like my pasty skin color. But I'll also look younger longer when everyone else will be able to stick a credit card in their skin because it's so wrinkley-crinkley by the time they hit 30. No worries about skin cancer either. I have some color now, but sunscreen is better than sunburn. Not worth it for color. Ouch!

I get that a lot too. I'd rather stay white than to get skin cancer. I don't tan anyway, I just get REALLY bad sunburns.

Just remember who's gonna have the nasty warts all over their brown, leathery skin in 30 years...and smile, white[/color] girl. Love, ~The Kitten~

Yeah, I'm fairly white. Not too white, but white enough to where my boyfriend jokes around with me and says, 'You need a TAN, girl!' Psh! He has nothing to worry about, his skin is naturally tan! Grr. But being white runs in my family. See, my family is Swiss, or from Switzerland....and, well...we're really white. But I don't care. I'm happy.

[glow=pink,2,300]I'm pretty white but I no one really insults me for it, besides some light teasing from my friends every now and then. This one friend of mine is extremely white and when she wore shorts the other day someone asked her if she was wearing white tights...[/glow]

Whoa, really? She's that white, eh? Yeah, I never really get teased for it. I sort of get a tan in the summer, so I'm pretty content with myself.

i don't tan. i turn lobster red, it peels off, and i'm pasty white again. anytime i wear a skirt people are like "my GOD! i think i'm blind" or "OMG whitey!" ugh.. lol. just because i don't have the luxury of tanning, i should always wear pants. whatever! it's so funny... back in victorian days... people did all they could be be creamy white. now you're a mutant. i'm known as "white girl" in PE. how demeaning

I know what ya mean Spazmatikal. I am known as the "white girl" too in PE. Especially PE. Being tan isn't worth burning and peeling and self tanners that turn you orange though. So I guess I'll just have to live with it.

I dont tan too often either. Especially since it was barely hot enough to do so last year & my tan faded.
I wore a skirt to school the other day with a slit in it. I walked past a group of guys I know & one says: "Wow your even whiter than I am!" They all turned & looked. I was kind of embarassed so I made a joke about it. I laughed & said: "Yeah Im just pastey!"
When ppl make comments like that towards me I always take it as a joke. Its the best way to go if you ask me. It shows you are not embarassed & ppl will be less likely to bring up the subject again.

^^^^^^ Yeah, that's a good way to go. Well,I'm a little white but alway during the summer, like when we go to Florida, I'' get a tan...along with a sunburn . I don't really care. I don't get teased or anything though. I mean, one of my friends said something once, but I thought of it as a joke also,SugarPanties. Only because it was funny the way she said it. But no offense, but some people look really bad tanned. Like they use way too much of that spray on or whatever it is. This one girl at the mall was literally bright orange. ~~~~~~Heather,(Edward Furlong,Mike Shinoda,Chester Bennington,KidRock & Joe C. LOVER!!!!!! Linkin Park RULES!!!!!!)

We never get this in the UK... maybe its because we have so little real sun, that it doesn't matter.
I tan quite easily though, so I usually end up with brown skin by the time summer's over. But for us it makes no difference whatever colour we are, or whether we have a tan or not. Not in my circles anyway.

I get that sometimes. I'm not too white but I'm around such tan people that it makes me look whiter than I am. During winter is when I get the whitest. But during summer, I get pretty good sun. Not dark or anything, just a little more color. But have you noticed that some people get SO dark that it starts to wrinkle the skin on their shoulders? I wouldnt want to be that dark. And when anyone says something to me (hasn't happened in a while) I say," I have fair skin and my family is from Switzerland, got a prob?"

I'm pretty white, but it's not really a problem. I think light skin is prettier than tan honestly. It looks more natural. Nobody really thinks too much of it down here.
