i think they should outlaw beauty pageants because real beauty comes from the inside not the outside

I don't agree with them at all. Sometimes I like watching them because I want to see what kind of clothing they are wearing ;D . But I think that *beauty* pageants degrade women. I mean alot of those girls look like Barbie dolls. Not everyone can look like that.

If they aren't jugded just on looks how come there aren't any overweighgt or not so pretty girls entering? By defining "not so pretty girls," you're judging them yourself. i think they should outlaw beauty pageants because real beauty comes from the inside not the outside Outlaw? I don't think so. If there are so many girls out there that are set against beauty pageants, don't you find it ironic that there are also some out there that still contest in them? I say it's their choice.
I mean alot of those girls look like Barbie dolls. Not everyone can look like that. What pageants have you been watching? A lot of contestants aren't stick-thin, blond and big-busted. And they can stand on their feet.

I have nothing against them. They give some women a platform they otherwise might not have had. It's sad to see beauty commercialised, but these women don't win their crowns just based on beauty. They are tested in other areas too.
Beauty pagaeants give women a voice. They help them go into areas that they couldn't have gone otherwise. Not all people are super-intelligent, or born filthy rich, so it's hard to make a mark and have your voice heard. If beauty pageants allow women to be heard, and help them take a stand on certain issues, who are we to stop it?

I'm not against beauty pageants. But I was in my school beauty pageant, and it's not something I would EVER do again. It's just not my thing. But that's just me. ;D
Good luck to anyone who does them, though.

I love pageants. My sis was in Miss Texas Teen and she got 4th place! Oh and there is the one Teen Pageant that you have to voted for to be in it, and they voted for me. Sadly, I'm not going to do it. Maybe next year. So what, their judged on their looks. But thats not all !! They're smart and sophisticated. If you ever pay attention, most of them are either going to attend, attending, or have attended a good college or university. Like the girl my sister lost to was pretty but she also was a cheerleader, horse back rider, volleyball player, track team, played the flute and was in the The National Honor Society !! The look for the best all-around. Not just looks.

ok, so there are women out there who need some sort of title to affirm that they have succeeded in life. fine with me. but i don't. i don't need to parade around in coloured underclothes that pass for a bathing suit to prove i am confident. i don't need to play a piano concierto in an evening gown in front of people who know shit-all about my talent to prove i'm talented. or pretend to care for a cause so i can be better liked. but some women need that. i'm not saying they are bad women. some of them are great. and have done wonderful works for their causes. and since we are a liberal society that values what everyone has to offer, these women feel their special blend of talent and socially approved good looks need to be acknowledged too. i don't. but that doesn't mean they need to be outlawed. in that case so should sports, because essentially it is mean to say one person is better than another because of her / his physical abilities right? if we keep thinking on that line, everything and everyone one would have to be outlawed. people are not equal in every way, and people like competition. we'll have to accept that someday. but you needn't feel hurt about it. ~*pobo ;D

When I saw this title, I immediately thought about the little kiddy pagents for the toddlers and little girls. Either way, I think it is dumb, and I would never let my kids be in a beauty pagent. Like someone said "Beauty" bascially tells what the pageant is all about. Also, it's just gonna make the girls less confident about their physical appearance, because if they lose they will probably keep comparing their looks with the girl who won.
Also, it is teaching the girls that appearance is everything, because you spend all that money on clothes, bathing suits, makeup, getting your hair and nails done, and some new shoes. Then you spend all that time getting them made up. All in all, I think it's stupid. Beauty pageant my ass..

^You raise a really good point. I think adult beauty pageants are one thing, but kiddie pageants are just awful. Anyone remember Jon Benet Ramsey? The things her parents (mother, mostly) did to her really disgust me. She was, what, five? and they dressed her in slutty outfits, dressy shoes, and caked her face in makeup...I think it's appalling. Girls that age should be thinking about Barbie (well...), and apple juice and graham crackers, and recess, and playdates... NOT about looking sexy, or being beautiful, or anything. ~Mike

Ugh...kiddie pageants are truly disgusting. But in general...I don't like beauty pageants but it's each woman's choice, her body, her life.
