I know each of you have faced this problem at least once, or maybe you have caused it. Whichever of the above category you fit into, let me give you something to think about. EVERYONE is created equal, it's just the ignorance of ignorant people that mess it up for everyone. I am 16 years old and in high school. I am a Caucasian female. My boyfriend attends the same school as I do. He is African American and 17 years old. Many people have problems with us dating. My parents don't really even know, because if they did, they would disown me. Give me some input on what you think and I will post more later. Thanx!!!

I think its wonderful you are still open-minded even though your parents are not.. I'm happy to say i've dated outside of my race also.. But my parents dont care who I date.. My bestfriend went out with my black male friend, he parents fount out and she still recieves hell for it. Its been 3years since they went out. And me and my family is the only people who will still except and love her if she marries a black guy.. Which I think is sad because they should all love her. "people cant help who they like or fall inlove with regardless"

That sucks, that its 2002, and yet people still have problems with interracial dating. I'm 15, and I think that i'm the most open minded person I know, lol. seriously. I'm glad that my parents wouldn't have a problem if i dated a black guy, or a white guy or an asian guy aslong as he treated me good. My sister was the first person in our whole family to bring in a colored person, at first she did get some crap from my aunts and uncles but now, everybody knows her husband and they love him.

yes i HATE it when ppl are prejudice. im not at all. but my dad is. ok and i hate it. he imitates black ppl. and i asked my mom today y he is like that and she was like he has had a lot of different experiences with them. and i was like so what that duznt mean every1 is like that. an d i asked what he would do if i brought a black friend home and she was like that is out of the question. (not because she is prejudice but b/c my dad) i think that the word n!gger is used way to freely. i dont like that word. i hate when ppl use it. ok today in my social studies class (we are all white) but someone was annoying my friend so he says "shut up u f**king a$$ n!gger" i hated it.

I totally agree: prejudice makes me sick. It's 2002, why haven't people learned by now that even though we may no look alike we're all basically alike on the inside? Ug, that's all I can say about that.

my mom is very prejudice. a few years ago we moved into a new house over the summer. we were looking for houses and my mom didn't want to move into this one house bcause according to her it was a "black" area. she said that she wanted us to move into a good neighborhood. i asked her what she meant by that and she looked embarassed and said " i mean a neighborhood with, ummm kids". she makes fun of my fat friends and my chinese friends and basically everyone. she thinks all people that arent white are poor which is not true!! it makes me sick. my dad would have no problem with interacial dating, he is white and dating a chinese woman.

Like I said on the Xenophobia thread, ppl are just afraid of those that are different.
The funny thing is that I really have no white friends (aside from 1-2) in my school. They're all Asian or Black. Hmm. My mom and dad are perfectly fine with this (they're tolerant for everything)
I think the racial issue is that people are afriad that people of another race might not treat you as well as some one of your own (load of BS) -- if they'r caring and funny (hot can't hurt) who cares???

^^^ Very true. A lot of people also don't realize that prejudice is not limited to racism.

ALL forms of prejudice make me sick!!! Webster's definition of prejudice: 1 : injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another in disregard of one's rights; especially : detriment to one's legal rights or claims 2 a (1) : preconceived judgment or opinion (2) : an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge b : an instance of such judgment or opinion c : an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics We usually do associate prejudice with racism (which isn't bad or off, since it is part of it), but just remember about other forms of it too. Since I'm on the subject, ill share this part of a chat I JUST had today: R: y do u act like a white girel R: *girl Me: i dont act like a white girl! Me: i act like me! R: yes u do Me: how does a white girl act? R: u have nuttin but white freinds R: u just have black body figures Me: thats just a coincidence, it doesnt really matter to me <-(that wasn't a response to "u just have black body figures", just thought I'd clear that up) R: like a white girl Me: really though... how do you act like a white girl? R: u never had a boyfreind in wa R: it is hard to explain Me: no its not... and no Me: explain it! R: i cant Me: then i guess you shouldnt say that, huh? R: u have never had a boyfreind have u R: It's funny how he changes the subject so quickly, lol. As I look back, I believe I could have handled it better. This makes me sick, and also makes me laugh how he couldn't answer my question. Please, let me caution you, never let yourself look that stupid. I'm done!

As I've said before, everyone is prejudiced. We all make judgments and have our own biases. And all people are NOT equal. They may all have equal political rights, but all people will never be socially and economically equal.

We're all prejudiced. If it's not skin color it's looks, if it's not looks, it's the clothes, "What the hell is she wearing?", the car, the house, the job, a person's grades. And if it's not that, it's a person's religion, "He's a Christian so he's closed-minded," hobbies, "Oh you're an artist. You must have a lot of time on your hands." and course of study. "Why is she studying that?"
We all do it, we're all going to do it, and we all fight with it because it's not who we are or who we want to be. But if you hate prejudiced people, that puts you in the same running.
