i'm biracial, and i was just wondering if anybody else here is also? i have a hard time telling people about my ethnicity because it gets really repetetive after awhile. for example, whenever i tell most people my mom's native language, they laugh because it sounds funny. or they have this strange look on their face like its really weird. i mainly hang out with people of a different race than mine, because race isn't usually an issue with me. but i just have this feeling that they feel more comfortable hanging out with people of their same color. maybe i'm just feeling paranoid or something because i have a lot on my mind lately. the thought of being biracial affecting me hasn't really come to my mind until about a week ago. does anybody else know what i am talking about? post your thoughts here.

hunny, you should be PROUD of where you came from. if your mom is from (lets say) india and your dad is from the oposite side of the earth, you should be proud that they found each other and that they love each other (and you!) so much. race SHOULDN'T matter. there should only be one race--the human race!

i never said that i wasn't proud of my race. i'm extremely proud. it just annoys me that some people act kind of strange when the subject comes up.

OMG! I hate that. I'm not biracial but I have soo many friends who are multi-racial (1's 1/8th Chinese, 1/8th Filipino, 1/8th Hispanisc, 1/8th European 1/2 African) When I find out some 1 has so many different backgrounds I think its really cool (hey, mebbe its just me being raised in NYC with every kind of person on earth around)
Oh, diva, a question: What do you put on forms where they ask a specific ethnicity? (My theory is that we're all from Africa originally and race truly doesn't matter much to me so why put anything?)

They added a biracial bubble on the SATs, so you can bubble that in

I'm not biracial, but I think some of the most beautiful people are biracial. Be proud chica! I hang out with all races and I have lots of biracial friends, it's completely accepted here, but maybe because were close to Chicago...

One of my very good friends is Biracial, and I think it's cool. I find it interesting that she has so many backrounds. I'm not really sure of them, but I do know that her mom came to the USA from Aruba.

Hey,we're all people here and race shouldn't affect anyone!! I think it's stupid for people to think it's weird that you're biracial.

I am mixed-race (biracial) and I am proud to have inherited two such interesting and rich cultures. Whilst I was growing up I did feel slightly confused because I felt as though I didn't "belong" to either of my inherited cultures. I've since learnt to embrace them and realise that they belong to me and not the other way around.

One of my best friend's ancestors was coloured so she's a bit darker than most ppl. Kinda like she's got a dark tan. Anyway, once a guy we met took me aside and asked if she was coloured. I was very uncomfortable, I told him no. It annoyed me that it mattered and that he had asked.

I don't see what the big deal is about being biracial. Most people in the US are of mixed ethnicities, anyway. I mean, my background is composed of four different nationalities. You just can't tell that by looking at me, whereas you can tell if someone is mulatto. And it doesn't mean I'm any less "pure" than someone who is of only one nationality. I don't think that biracial people should fell that they don't belong, because your race only affects the way you look.

My brother is biracial. Actually, he's my half brother - we have the same mother - but I don't think of him as being a "half" brother. Anyways, he's half African American, half white, and he's gotten a lot of crap througout his life because of it. He's been called names, disrespected, and even spit on by a police officer. It really bugs me when I see stuff like that happening to him, and it's incredibly hard for me to keep my mouth shut. So I usually don't. I tell the jackasses off.
