Well first off, this belongs in Prejudice so I am moving it there.
I believe that the KKK has sick and twisted views, but they have every right to express them. Even though the views of the KKK fall well out of the social norm they do recieve protection under the First Amendment. Do they deserve that protection? Probaly not, but they recieve it nonetheless.

I disagree. The KKK are a bunch of domestic terrorists that should be silenced, arrested and locked away. They've skirted the law too long, they've killed too many and have had too much protection. It's amazing we tolorate such an organization. They should be sent to Guantanamo Bay with their buddies, Al Kida terrorists and let them fight it out.

^^Toxic, when is the last time that someone from the KKK has gone out and killed people? History has rendered this sick organization impotent. As Cass said if they wish to peacefully assemble, who in the hell are you to stop them?

<<who in the hell are you to stop them? >>
With all the terrorism going on, the KKK is no different and our open-door policy on even dangerous anti-establishment organizations is why it was so easy for al-Queda to slip in here to cause the events of September 11th
Back on topic: They never march peacefully. They spit at and abuse newscrews taping their parades. As soon as someone challenges them or says anything they start picking fights and near riots erupt at every one of their parades. They should be happy about the media attention that since they're getting the attention they want and free publicity.
Their very presence raises blood pressures of those who see them. As for the killings, granted they don't do what they did in the KKK's early days, but with their meetings and literature, some of that gives people ideas and there have been quite a few murders caused by KKK members in the last 20 years.

Dont worry Toxic, Im not ticked off at you at all.
I completely agree that if riots errupt, than the police should be brought in, and the whole thing should be broken up.
I really dont want this to sound like I support the KKK in any way, but I just vehemently believe that they as individuals have the right to freedom of speech and to peacefully assemble. When you start banning groups that arent inherantly violent, that may not cause violence, you start down a slippery slope. If we give the government the power to ban one group, why not the next?

I deleted that first part, it sounded whiny. I shouldn't read this stuff so early in the morning.
I see your point, but it has to stop. And I agree, we shouldn't give the Government the power to ban groups. The problem is we should be doing that, not the Government. And that starts by not paying attention and not attending their little parades and tirades. They won't go away completely, but they won't be getting the attention they want either. If we are concerned that banning certain groups would lead becoming a police state, I understand your point. But it could go the other way and these groups start limiting OUR freedom.
What to do, what to do?

The KKK, in my opinion, is wrong with their views and beliefs. But, they are allowed to do this, I can't do nothing about it except hope and pray that it will just go away after awhile. ~*Jenny*~

Guess what? If you're not WASP (white Anglo-Saxon protestant) they hate you just as much as they hate black people. Catholics are especially on their "hit list".

Gee, is that a flaming pile of dogshit? I'll decline to step in it.
The first amendment protects people I don't agree with too, and honestly I think it gives them less steam to let them vent without being able to get on the whole "the government represses me by outlawing my group" trip.
