Hmm. I would love to think racism will one day pass away but sadly I don't think it ever will.
It's like President Bush thinking that if he attacks Afghanistan and tries to find bin Laden, or get Sadaam Hussein, he will defeat terrorism. That's not the case. The "war against terrorism" is just an attempt to get rid of current massive terrorists, not to defeat terrorism completely. For if that was the case, it wouldn't be acting like it is now.
We can try to get rid of racist people and racist political parties, but unless we practise anti-racism in our own lives, and teach it to our friends and family - and the rest of the world does that too - racism will never be defeated.
You can say "I want justice" but how much do you want justice if you're not practising that in your home? That's what I read a few weeks back; justice and fairness starts at home.

Ooh, pettyluv! I LOVE 1984. Actually, I just handed an essay in on Monday about exactly what you were saying. I wrote about how the Internet and computer spy programs (check one out at http://www.iambigbrother.com), and video cameras in public areas are recreations of the telescreens in 1984. (Sorry if you have no idea what I'm talking about; I guess you need to read the book to fully understand.) Anyway, sorry for going off-topic. Love, ~The Kitten~

Racism will always be around, for it is an agent of chaos. Chaos is simply the constant change that is nature. Humanity will never be rid of racism, for there would be a stagnation. It's called balance. Just as there are people who are more accepting and tolerant, there are those who aren't. You cna either move on with life if I you don't like it, or just sit there and cry. Any questions?

Neither will racism end when those who try not to be are labeled racist no matter what they do. There's an ad on TV by Ford and all they show are head shots of three different men of color. A voice-over condesendingly asks us what "these three men are. If you said, WALKING, you are correct."
First, it is not apparent that these men are doing much of anything and I resent the implication (to no one here) that I am a racist because I ask questions about someone. See, I'm white. Wonderbread white. I'm caucasian. No biggie, that's what I am. So what? I'm not offended if you call me that. I am not racist. Imperfect with it, apparently, but give me a break whilst I work on it. Don't look at an area of my life and go, "Uh, oh, you ARE a racist because you think . . . " Nope, sorry, I'm not.

Racism will never end. As much as we (or some of us) would like to see it disappear it's just not going to happen. Maybe if we wiped out everybody and started all over again things might be different... It's not like there's racism between blacks and whites alone. Even within a country people of one community look down/don't mix with people of another community. It's all up to the parents to teach their kids about living with other races. My friend's dad is Sri Lankan and his mum is British, but his friends still call him a 'blackie'. Why some people have a problem with 'coloured' people is beyond me. We should be proud of our skin colour and our background. Why is lineage been something to be shy of? Slavery occuring again? Forced labour is still practised in some parts of the world, but wholesale white-taking-black might not happen now. There still are young girls being taken as prostitutes from Africa to Europe, without them knowing what they're headed for (they're under the impression that they're being offered jobs abroad). I guess that can be considered a type of slavery/bonded labour.

As much as I hate for it to be this way, I do not think it will end. Racism really stems from fear that one race will become better than another. And there will always be that fear. I wish it wasn't so, but thats just the way it has been and the way it will be.

Racism will never end. That is the sad truth of the matter. As long as there is even one person who is Prejudice towards certain things it will always be around. If you really think about racism most likely started with one person. That one person goes around telling everybody else how stupid someone or a gruop pof people are and then some start thinking that too. Then they pass it on to there kids and so on and so on. Racism is taught. Think about it who is most likely to be racist a kid with a family member who is racist or one who has parents who teaches thier kid good morals. So as long as their peoiple wlling to teach it there will be people willing to learn.

I don't think it will end, and I'm not really concerned about it. Everyone is prejudiced to some extent. If there are people out their who think that their race is superior, why does it bother you? I think it's stupid to automatically assume that someone of a certain race is superior or inferior, but that's their problem if they want to think that way.

I hate the fact that people try to deny that race exists. Describing someone of being a certain race or ethnicity is not racism.
There IS such a thing as race. I have blonde hair and pale skin, you may have brown hair and dark skin. There are differences in people as far as skin color goes, and while that should not be a determining factor in how someone is treated, it's there, and we can't pretend it's invisible.
What's next? Are we all going to have to shave our heads too? God forbid we have different hair colors. And while we're at it, let's ration food as well, so our bodies are the same size.
Racism is having (usually negative, but as Haley pointed out, sometimes overly positive) feelings towards someone because they're a different race, not just aknowledging they're a different race, which I see often.
Racism isn't going to end. I see it every day amongst all different races. There might be a way to diminish it, but going all-out politically correct on our physical characteristics will do nothing.
