One of my friends showed me this website from PETA talking about how we should all boycott KFC because of the way they raise and handle their chickens. I don't see why it really matters since all these chickens are going to be slaughtered soon, anyway.
I know chickens can live like 10-15 years and everything, but come on. What does it really matter if they're only raised to like a few months and then killed? These chickens are bred to be food. It is not as if we are going out and killing off the wild chicken population and making the entire species extinct.
Any thoughts?

I think it matters because while, yes, they are being bred for food, we should have enough repect for the animal to treat it as humanely as possible. It still feels.

I don't think it's the fact that they are raised for a few months and then slaughtered that gets to me, it is the fact that they keep these chickens in boxes large enough to house the chicken (no extra room), one on top of the other as high as possible. That isn't right, whether or not they end up as food.

Think of how cows are raised too. This is done to keep the costs of farming and raising the animals down, for a less expensive product for the consumer. How much are you willing to pay for chicken or beef? Not justifying it, but those leather goods are not artificial.

Toxic, you're exactly right.
And who cares if the food feels? It's gonna make my belly feel good once it's been roasted. Raising animals is expensive enough as it is.
Hell, cattle live better lives than chickens do and so do pigs. The demand for chicken, I believe, is greater than it is for beef. Chicken is readily availible, there will never be a shortage in the near future, and they can be raised quickly and efficiently.
I would personally prefer that they clone chickens and then slaughter them then. However, cloning is expensive currently. And I believe Bush outlawed it. I know he outlawed human cloning of any kind, which was a pretty big mistake, but did he outlaw all cloning?

You ^ are right, chickens can be raised quickly because the type of chicken they use can live no longer than 8-9 week (hence the name 8 week fryers) After they reach this age, their bodies become too heavy for their legs to support and they are no longer able to walk or even stand. This type of chicken is made for meat.
I have gone to the KFC website and looked up some information on how they handle their animals, and I think you should all check it out. While you may not believe what they have to say, I do. I believe its kfc.com Go to the website, then click on "about KFC" then at the bottom is says News. Then go to Animal Welfare. Just my two bits Chelsea
