^ True. But they themselves call themselves preps. A lot even have shirts that will say Prep on the front, and then like #1 on the back... Blah

Grrr... I had a big long post typed out about this but then I erased it! Garsh. Moo. Anyway. I'll type out the main idea of it once again.
Prep clothes: Geez. Those shirts that say prep on them are way overboard. It's like saying prep is a bad thing. If you're going to be something, you don't need to write it out all over you so people know. People will notice who you are. You don't need it written out over your overstuffed bras in everyones face. If your a prep, which isn't a bad thing, because they are just a bunch of people that have stuff in common. Just as punks, goths, drama queens, etc. are. So anyway, if you're a prep. People will know. You don't have to tell them. They'll notice. End of story. Preps aren't bad people. They are just that. PEOPLE. But for the total prep effect you have to act "preppy." Which is often bitchy, snotty, and just plain mean. THAT is not a style. That's a personality. That is mean. I have no problems with preps. I have problems with that though.
OK... Nvm. I got back that post I deleted. Some of this might be repeated but here....
I know! I hate the shirts that say prep on them. Like I'm glad you're proud of being a prep.... but... come on. That's just gay (in a non bisexual sorry for offending anyone way). Anyway though preps are just groups of peple who have things in common so are therefore friends. It's just like drama queens, punks, goths etc. They just have stuff in common so they hang out. There's nothing wrong with that. I mean I sometimes wear preppy clothing... but I add my own touch to them with completely funky socks, biker belts, bright shoe laces, and my own touch of style. I'm more considered a prep/punk I guess, but I hate labels or labelling myself for that matter.

Why is it bad to have the word PREP on you ! I see things like "I love basketball" and "Cheerleader" on them. To me thats doing the exact same thing as labeling yourself a PREP! I see it as just showing people who you are and I don't see whats so wrong with that.

Because maybe they ARE a cheerleader. That's labeling what they do, not what they are. Two totally different things. You shouldn't label yourself as a person with like prep, punk, goth, hottie, etc. People can tell what you are. But by saying what you do on the shirts is all right because that's what you do and you definately do that, while in other cases it's up to other people to judge what you are, but you can state what you DO. See the difference?

^^^^^^ I agree There this one shirt on hottopic.com (yeah,I know) that was black and said "I'm the Goth that's Gother then all the other Goths" rolls eyes. But hey what if a non-cheerleader,/bball player got a shirt that said that on there, then what lolZ.

I'm labeled a prep at my school. Probably because I was on the dance team, I have blonde hair, and I am pretty popular but I listen linkin park and alternative not nsync or backstreet boys or whatever. And I wear what I like not what Britney Spears likes. So I don't know why I am labeled that but I don't really care. In a few years it won't matter anyway.

"I'm the Goth that's Gother then all the other Goths"
LOL!!!! I think that shirt is funny, it probably was meant as a joke.
The shirts that say prep, cheerleader, and stuff sound annoying, and egotistical. I remember when a girl was hitting on my boyfriend giving him her number when he didn't even want it and she puts "prep blonde cheerleader" under her number.. WTF? Is that suppose to make him want her more or something? or her shit don't stink? Whatever!
The funny thing is, the type of girl she described herself my boyfriend absolutely HATES with a passion. So her thinking it's gonna make guys fall for her with those labels backfired on this snob.

^^ Naru, it's those cheerleaders that give real cheerleaders a bad name. I think its dumb when a girl mentions a cheerleader, guys go goo-goo. Just because she's a cheerleader, doesn't mean she's "superior" or "hott" !
But I don't see the problem with wearing those shirts that label. If you are one, I don't see the problem with it.

And what if you're not?
------------------------------------------------------------------- easy. don't wear the damn shirt. if you're a prep, then you don't need to wear a shirt that says so. if you're goth, then you don't have to wear a shirt that says so. if you're punk, etc. etc. etc.
by wearing these shirts, you're only enforcing the stereotype even further. why bother?

So you're treating yourself like a product? Or when we see someone wearing a prep shirt or cheerleader, it's suppose to make us like them better than if they weren't a prep or cheerleader? That sounds awful egotistical to me.
I don't like shirts like that because like I said, it makes the person look very conceited. Just like those stupid "Perfection" shirts that Abercrombie use to sell.
It's like gag me with a spoon puh-leeze.

I have shirts that say dance. I don't see how that is labeling myself. I do dance and I am proud that I dance so why can't a cheerleader wear something that says cheer??
I personally think people make way too much out of those shirts. I mean I don't particulary like them(just my dance shirts) but if they wanna wear and if they wanna label theirself let em.

Naru, I didn't say that it's suppose to make someone like you more. I don't think thats anyones intentions when they purchase the so-called "labeling" shirts. It's just apart of the person. People don't see themselves as just a cheerleader or just a prep or anyother "label" but just one part of them. People buy shirts like those because it fits their personality.
