^^ I'm curious to know what you think a "freak" is... Yeah, I know, half punk/half goth... I've gotten that point since you seem to point it out all the time. What, is it what you wear that makes you a "freak"? I just want to know, cause I don't think anyone is really a freak. People are just people, you don't need to label yourself.
K, off that subject... Omg, I was at Hot Topic trying to find this Staind shirt they had there to get for my buddie's B-day and there was this chick there that looked like she was around 12 or 13. Well, anyway, she was trying like the whole entire store on, and I heard her talking to her friend. She goes, "Yeah, I'm gonna be Gothic this year! Isn't that cool!? My parents hate that kind of stuff, so that's why I like it. Plus everyone in our school will think I'm cool." WTF!? Why is it that people seem to think if they shop at Hot Topic it makes them Goth? And why would people think you're cool by being "Gothic" anyway? Ugh, I hate fakes. And I hate how the whole "Gothic" and "Punk" thing is in fasion right now. Like half my school is trying to be one. I mean, if you're really into that stuff, that's cool, but I don't see the point of doing it because it's "in fasion".

Ok, then. The way I dress:: I wear gothie and punkie clothes. I have the matching personality and I don't follow the crowd.
But what I meant to her was, was by wearing that doesn't just make you Gothic. Like Rachel, it just comes naturally to Goths.

i'd just like to say that i don't think of half goth/half punk folk as "freaks" (i reserve that term for those who deserve it).
i call them "gunks"
thank you for your time.

I like Hot Topic's shoelaces, that's it. But I'm scared to go in there because one time I passed by it and this guy and girl cashier were making out, plus I was about 10 and with my mom, so yeah. That was mean of me to stereotype them but still, it was intimidating! I'm getting a little annoyed by all my friends who say, "Sometimes I wake up and I feel Gotheyishy and so I like, wear all black, but then I feel Punkeyishy and so I like, wear plaid and safety pins! Omigod, and sometimes I feel *so* totally preppy, so I like, wear, like, normal clothes, you know?" Those are the only three labels they know, but they would never dress "nerdy" or "young" because of course, those are not the cool stereotypes. I ran into this really tall guy at school with dyed black hair and a leather jacket and black jeans and about 400 chains on the jeans..a little scary I'm sure he was very nice, but still, besides that, he was TALL! Okay, now I'm babbling, continue your smart people discussions. *cruises out on her Barbie Jeep Rider*

While I'm thinkg about it (I hope I haven't already posted it.. I'm too lazy too check ) Ya'know, being Gothic isn't about the black. I have an online friend who is Gothic and he doesn't look like it.. I mean, in the picture he showed me, he wasn't wearing makup, he wasn't very much pale, and he was wearing white. That really goes to show it's not the way you dress, it's your personality. And to anyone who cares:: I'm starting to realize that labels don't matter much to me anymore. Label me whatever you want.. I don't care.

lol GOTHIC GIRL *laughs hystrically*
Well, this is a bit judgmental but I think most goths are complete conformists.

A lot of you do not know Ich Liebe Rammstein like I do. Me and her are great friends and I love her like a sister. She does not think of herself as "Goth" "Prep" "Punk" or anything. She doesn't label herself. Maybe she did, though she could have been joking to make fights (she likes to get in fights... don't ask)
I doubt she even meant anything she said to you in this thread. Her and I dress sort of alike, and many people may get the message of us as being "metal heads" "Goth" anything in that category. We don't dress this way all the time. And we certainly do not care what others think of us.
If you met us, we'd be a lot different than what you have been reading. We both like to read (she mainly reads about death, Holocaust/WWII, etc.) and I like anything and about the same.
Just my two cents.
Anyway, to add my part on the self-proclaimed Goths-- One, don't refer to herself as being "Gothic" Gothic is a type of art, not a style. Labeling herself that will make people like me think of you as a castle, since that's pretty much what "Gothic" refers to. But it's ok, we all have our moments. Another thing, you are nothing. Don't take that the wrong way. You are NOT goth, NOT punk, NOT anything. You are you. Grow up.

Meh, how about EVERYONE just gets over sterotypes? Stop trying to fit into them, and PLEEEEAAASE, stop trying to break them, b/c there are a million and the harder you try to break stereotypes the more of a conformist you usually act like.

Amen to that!!
I hate how so many people are "becoming" Goth or Punk or whatever just because it's the new flavor of the year. I'm not anything. I listen to a lot of punk music but that doesn't make me a punk, I like to wear Black But I'm not Goth I also like to wear "preppy" cloths but that doesn't make me a prep, I don't care about trends, I'm not gonna wear somthing or act like somthing or listed to a certain type of music just because it's cool I do it because I Like it!! If I like somthing that's "NOT COOL" then oh well because I like it. I am me and that's my style/trend!!
Sorry I just had to say that!!
Anyways on the topic of Goth stereotypes, I agree with whoever said it's a state of mind not a clothing style.

That's sort of what I meant in my post. Though me and Heather dress that way, we don't *all* the time. Like Another Brick in the Wall said, me and her and lots of our friends wear black one day, plaid another day, "preppy" a week later. You know when last year all the rage was the 'hippie' trend? I wanted so badly to go up to someone and ask if they were a Hippie. But really, Since Avril has been getting popular (for her style), they are starting to sell ties wherever you go. "Punk" is the 'thing'. Ich Liebe Rammstein and I like a different variety of music. We listen to Goth, Industrial, hip-hop, punk, pop/bubble-gum, metal- Pretty much everything. But that doesn't make us "Goth" "Preppy" "Ghetto" "Punk" Whatever! It really gets on my nerves how you can't wear what you like without getting labeled. I think everyone should just be free to wear what they *like* and if they see someone who, to them, looks "Goth" or "Punk" they shouldn't try to label them. Just a thought: The word 'Ghetto' was referred to a place where Jews had to live before being sent to concentration camps and death camps in the early 40's. How did that word turn into a word used generally for African Americans? ("ghetto-fied" type things) I think I missed something. Oh well. P.S I know what it was like when I wanted to be different. If you're like that now, you will eventually grow out of it in a year or so.

It probably became viewed as another word for'slums', that sort of thing. It really is a pretty similar concept.
