The "nerd" label seems to have such a negative connotation, and I don't really understand why. I'll admit, I'm probably what you would consider a nerd. I don't look like one from the outside, but my personality totally fits the stereotype of a nerd/geek/dork/etc. I like to read. I enjoy going to school because I like to learn. I like computer games and video games, and I spend a lot of time online. Quite often, I prefer staying home on a Saturday night than going out. I care a hell of a lot more about politics and science than I do about Britney Spears' and Justin Timberlake's breakup. I have a few close friends, but I don't constantly spend time with them. So my question is, why is this a bad thing?

I don't think it is a bad thing at all. I am about the same way. I have been to almost every website on the internet, I play a lot of video games sometimes. I guess I am not labeled a nerd is because I don't see the importance of things such as school. And people have already looked at what I have worn and my personlity and has already labeled me Gothic, Punk. I like to keep to myself most of the time then go out at some club where almost everyone there is either high or drunk. I like learning, yes. I watch the discovery channel and watch the FBI and detective shows and sometimes I like to watch Unsolved Mysteries on Lifetime. I guess, it isn't a bad thing once you think about it. I don't have a problem with people labeling me anything (I label people all the time out of habit , So I really don't care) ok, if this doesn't make sense-- Sorry. I tried.

I'm like you guys, multiplied in nerdiness times ten It's more in to be well-versed on Hollywood than it is to be well-versed in social sciences or any of that. Instead of reading books, you're supposed to be watching MTV, or pretending you don't watch it because it's not cool enough for your badass self. You're supposed to be spending your Saturday nights partying with friends, on a date, or if you're a "badass," out egging houses. If people want to pass the time doing these things, who am I to tell them they're wrong? But I'd rather be online or something. I get really excited learning new things, getting into debates, just expressing my opinion. It all sharpens my mind. Now, gossiping about the latest fashions might do that for someone else, but not for me. Sometimes, I like to have a little bit of fun, too, I don't have a stick up my butt. But I don't want that to be the only thing on my mind.

I love getting online and taking servays (no, nicole, that wasn't sarcastic ) and expressing myself and just chatting with different people. I seem to lable myself a nerd sometimes... Not because i make good grades (cough i don't cough) but because i know a lot about computers and i can hook one up if i had to (which i have done beforewhen i was mad about my parents finding out i had aim for the 2nd time and i nplugged everything.. and i plugged it back up and the only thing i did wrong was that i got the volume plugged in wrong : so yeah.. but i like to get teen magazines just to ya'know look at the clothes that i eventually going to scare me away next month by kids at my school and those stupid idiotic love articles, etc.... so yeah. I'm a nerd, and I don't think its a bad thing. I spend like four hours or more of my day online. Yesterday I read 150 pages of my book (took me three hours ) I'm not really that smart though. I like being a nerd. Nothing else would fit. I'm not the type of person who goes to parties, has hundreds of friends, gabs on the phone all night. My sis constantly says "You need to get a life." But what is a life? I'm quite happy with mine. Ya know?
