Awww. Ms.Thang, that is so mean!!! You want me to go kick those guys butts?!?!?! LOL. Just kidding. I had a gap too, but people always told me it was cute and kinda like my trade mark. But when I was like in 4th and 5th they made fun of me, but it was only a few people, and they were guys, of course. (No offense to any NICE guys here). Anyways. I have braces now and get them off in 3 to 4 months. I got them on in November, so I didn't need them that long. They do suck but on sertain people they look cute..... but they are deffiantly NOT a trend. Whoever would want braces other then the reason that they needed them is crazy.

I don't know if it's a trend, but I really want them just to get them over with. But lucky me is a late bloomer in the teeth department and I haven't grown any molars yet. I don't want to go to college with braces on!

I don't think it's a trend in the sense that people are getting them for that reason alone. I think we're seeing them more now because people are okay with them--they even look kind of cute. Awhile back, though, people were so ashamed of having braces, that having horribly crooked teeth seemed better.
I just recently got my braces off less than two weeks ago. At first, I wasn't used to my smile without them (I'd had them for three years) and thought I looked bad, even though my teeth were straight. But now I'm very happy with it.

I have braces. I needed them for two years and I've had them for about 7 months already. I can't wait till I can get them off.

I have braces top and bottom. When I first got them , they cut my lips and gums and they were really painful, then my ortho gave me thise kind of stuff to spread on the braces, and they helped alot. I'm stuck with my braces for 3-5 years. *sigh* Mine are blue. ;D

Personally, I think having perfect, straight teeth is boring. I have this one tooth that is behind the teeth that are on the sides of it, and it used to bother me a lot, but now... it's me. The rest of my teeth are fine, almost perfectly straight, and I don't see the need in getting a whole mouth of braces for one tooth... or even having that tooth pulled out and getting a "new" one put in. <shrugs> But that may just be me. $4500 worth of mouthgear isn't worth it, IMO.

^^ Agreed. I suppose some people really need them, but in my case I don't think they were really nessecary. My bottom teeth were a little crooked, but I was okay with them. Its not worth it to have to drive 300 miles every month.
I should already have mine off, but I've missed so many appointments.

I really wouldn't call them a trend. Only a few silly silly people want them (and have enver had them, coincidentally) and they are incredibly expensive.
I suppose many need them, but I feel some orthodontists use them on people who they really aren't necessary for. But, I'm not a doctor or anything so what do I know?

I suppose many need them, but I feel some orthodontists use them on people who they really aren't necessary for. This is true. My dentist has told me several times that I need braces, and need to make an appointment to get fitted for them, or whatever. Uh. I'm not a dentist, but..no. My teeth aren't that bad, weren't ever really bad, and (hopefully) won't get bad in the future. So I didn't get them. And you know what? My teeth have straightened out on their own. Hah. I was right, and my dentist wasn't.

I had braces for 2 1/2 years. I hated them, but they did 'fix' my teeth. I guess I needed them, seeing as I had an overbite, but I don't really see much of a difference, though a few of my teeth did straighten out.
I don't think braces have become a trend, per se. I think it's more that there is an increase in the number of people who can afford them now. That's why they seem to be everywhere.
