^^^ Just because you are against organized religion doesn't mean you *can't* believe in god(s).

But to the agnostics and atheists here, do you not consider yourself to be religious too? You follow a belief system, a set of rules, a doctrine of what you beleive is right, wrong, or indifferent. What say you? I dont think of myself as religious, because ( this may be incorrect) but I think of being religious as being part of an organized religion. Atheist/Agnostic beliefs are not organized other than the fact that you do not believe in an existance of god. I do have some very strong spiritual beliefs and morals and everything but I would not call them religious. P.S. Thx for replying to my post everyone!

I'm agnostic. Some people say that it's the same as atheism, but there is a big difference. Atheists believe that there is no god. Agnostics don't believe in anything. They are open to the idea that something out there may exist, but they don't have any specific beliefs about it. My feeling about religion is that I don't know what's out there, and neither does anyone else. I personally cannot see the point in devoting my life to a religion that most likely is not correct about what happens after death (because there are many religions, and only one, or possible none, are true). However, I see nothing wrong with being religious. If you believe in god, that's great. But I just don't believe in it. That's how I feel, and I can't make myself believe in god. I don't think that your beliefs of something as unknown as religion can really be controlled
Cassie, this sums up exactly whta I think. I called myself catholic once, I got close to the Wican way but found it was not what I belive, and then I realized just recently I am agnostic, plain and simple. Why devote your life to something u can't possibly know and are not sure of?

I am a Christian. It's not anything half-hearted. I believe it pure and simple and believe it is the absolute truth. I'm not devoting my life to something uncertain. I agree with your statement if a person is unsure, but many who following devotedly a religion (and what is, may I ask, following a religion?) are very sure about it.
Being Atheist in the same way, is saying very clearly "I do not believe in God". Surely thats taking the same stance as someone who says "yes I do believe in God"?

[glow=pink,2,300]That's true. You can't be completely sure there is a god but you can't be completely sure there isn't a god.[/glow]

I consider myself to be agnostic. My mom and dad are both Catholics, and when I was younger, I was expected to follow their religion, at least until I was old enough to decide what I wanted.
When I was twelve, I declared myself to have no spiritual belief. It was mostly because I found myself to question many perspectives that being a Catholic since birth provoked, and also because I did not think religion was an essential part of my life. I had no obligations to attend church every Sunday, nor to believe that there was a God. But, like someone else said, I have no obligations to believe there isn't a God.
When I'm older, I can see myself possibly turning to God. But until then, I choose to remain agnostic.

my spirtual life has been a rollercoaster ride so far. ive gone from one extreme to another. i was born a "catholic", but as most catholics know that doesnt entail too much besides getting baptized and suffering through sunday school until you make your confirmation. somewhere in between there i decided that i was a born again christian and was into that whole thing for a while. eventually that faded away and i jumped to the other side of the line and became an aethist, and have been one ever since. recently though, there is this unmistakable feeling i get. its almost like something calling me back to god. i eve started praying (well my version of praying..writting letters). honestly, it helps. i dont know why and i dont know how, perhaps its a psychological thing. i miss the comfort of being in a church, i miss the community and support of it all, but i would feel like such a hypocrite for spending so much time bashing it before. i dont know if im ready to become a "christian", or wheter or not i ever will. right now im open to god, and im letting him find a place in my heart. im hoping that i'll find a place or cogregation where i feel at home, but if not im fine with crouching in the corners writting in my "letters to god" notebook..lol

^^^^ I kind of feel the same way in a different way. I have no clue what I believe. Talking to God is so comforting. I feel less lonely. But one side of me feels like it's just something made up to make people feel better. I don't really want to label myself as anything for now.

I'm Agnostic, I was Anglican but it didn't feel right and I am one of those ppl who have to see it to believe it, and well, no religion that i know of can give me that proof. i am not going to devote myself to being an anglican if god may not exist. what would be the point then?

If you were Anglican, then you would *know* that God a) exists and b) that theres a point in the whole scheme. You wouldn't be devoting yourself to something totally meaningless because you would believe in what being Anglican is. You would believe in God. You would want to devote yourself to God because you would believe that its the right way. And if it finds you satisfaction then its worth it.

I'm not trying to flare up an argument here, I sware. But for the athiest: Why don't you believe in God? Do you believe that, like, there is no God, or you hate God, or you don't believe in Heaven and Church? I know that I will probably be asked why I believe in God and the reason is because I was built on as a strong Christian almost 99% of my family is Christian. I also would like to know what agnostic means?

Agnostic is neither the denying nor the acceptance of any higher power. Basically, agnostics are open to the possibility of a higher power, but say that no one can know for sure if there is one. As for the atheist question, well I can't answer that since I'm not actually atheist (agnostic actually), but I think that atheists believe that there is no higher power governing the universe. They may believe in evolution, or in their own theories of how the universe was created, or even believe that no one knows for sure how the universe was created (like agnostics do). It differs from person to person. Religious beliefs are intensely personal and hard to classify.

Atheists have different reasons for not believing in God. For me, I just dont agree with a lot of things said in the bible, and find it hrd to comprehend that all the universe was just "made" by one person. Other people may have different reasons. And no, wedo not "hate god", because we believe there is no god.
