Do you believe everything is meant to happen? Personally, I think that everything is meant to happen. I think that God throws obstacles at you so that you rely more on Him, and your faith grows stronger. Take this excerpt from this tape: A man was in the hospital, and had to have his leg decapitated (sp?). He asked God, "What good comes out of my leg being decapitated?" So, the doctors take his leg off, and replace it with a styrofoam leg. The man and his men were shipmates, and landed on a Canaball (people who eat people) island, and were stranded there. The man told the main chief he'd cut off a piece of his leg, to see if the cannaballs would like their meat. Of course, he cut it off of the styrofoam leg. The Cannaballs all tried it and let them go. Anyways, so what are your opinions on it? Do you really think EVERYTHING is meant to happen?

First of all, I'm speaking as a Christian here, and putting my religious beliefs as a part of my philosophical beliefs.
Do I believe everything is meant to happen? No. God clearly states in the Bible that humans have free will over their lives. If everything was mean to happen, that would basically be God pulling the strings on human puppets. So no, I do not believe that everything is pre-determined.
Your life is, for the most part, what you make of it.
Yes...for the most part. I think that there are some things in life that are meant to be...but big things. Not little, everyday things...more like the kind of stuff that could change your life. But humans control the way these things come about, the way they are handled, and the terms on which they are finished.
I do agree with you about obstacles being thrown @ you to make you stronger. Experience is its own greatest teacher, and pain and suffering teaches us to grow, mature, and become a stronger and wiser person. "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger", basically. But I wouldn't say that these troubles are neccessarily set in stone from the minute you are born. Rather, I think God hands us trials as he sees we need them - certain people who have the capability to handle more are given more, and emerge a stronger person. It's all a part of the master plan, IMHO.

I think that everything that is out of your control is meant to happen. No matter if it is a tragedy, or a blessing.

This is true to an extent. God does put obstacles in our lives to help build us up and stregthen us. But these trials are meant to build us up, not run us down.
But I'm with Lost.In. The Song Not everything that happens to us is God's or even Satan's idea. God gives us free will. God does direct our paths if we let Him, but that involves things like the people he puts in our lives, the talents he gives us, and the family members we were given.
I'll use Lost.In.The.Song as an example. You want to sing and write music. God gave you an artistic talent and this is how you chose to use it. God is not going to be mad at you becasue He wanted you to paint. God gives all of us a talent or two or more. It's entirely up to us how to develop them.
Let's say you're in a car and it hits an icy patch of road. You do everything you can to keep control of that car and you successfully bring it to a safe stop. It's a safe bet that God intervened. But God did not make that car hit the ice to make life more interesting.
But it was up to you to control the car, as well as picking the car to begin with. You get up in the morning and ask God what color socks you should wear. Well, that's where free will comes in. But your car blows a tire and you're late for work. That's just part of life.

It's "amputated" not decapitated. and it's " Cannibal". Anyway, I didn't read all of that, but I've always believed everything happens for a reason. Take my life as an example:: When I was 9 months old I was adopted to a 'better' family. Around when was 8, i moved to Nashville. after 3 or 4 years I moved back to tennessee and stayed there.... I did 6th grade twice, where I met my friend cilla, and we've been friends for 3 years. she got me introduced to my ""bf"", Jay, last year. then my great-grandmother died, later my aunt finally had a baby. If you just think about it-- What if I never got adopted?? I would have probably been an orphan or raised by my grandfather. And what if I moved to Nashville and never moved back?? I wouldn't have seen my great-grandmother one last time, I wouldn't have been at the hospital when my aunt had c-section and I wouldn't have mnet Jay and my friend daniel. I also probably would not have had good, caring friends as I do now. That's just an example for me. I'm also sure everyone has something similiar to my story. Think about it.

I know that's probably not the issue here, but I don't believe in fate. We all have a choice in life, and we go where we wish. We can choose to have a God involved or not. It's all our choice. We will ALL have bad stuff in our lives, because the world ain't perfect. I don't believe God deliberately chucks a hard situation at you; rather I think he helps you live with, accept, and cope with the hard situations. I don't believe he thinks they're good, but I think he makes it possible for you to learn from your experiences, and come closer to him through them.

I really don't believe in fate at all. I certainly don't think that obstacles are thrown at us just to make us stronger, I think they just happen because of free will. Because not all obstacles ever do make a person stronger, although I know a lot of people disagree on that.
I do, strangely enough, believe in soulmates, but I believe it's REALLY rare for anyone to find theirs and that love works out without any need for soulmates.

LOL!
Sorry...anyways I'd like to say that a discussion on Fate could bring to question if, for people who stray from God, if its written in their Fate for them to stray?!
Hmm! Erm as i was saying.
I believe that every single thing was meant to happen for a reason. I'm not saying that God hasnt given us free will. I'm jsut saying that maybe its true that the experiences we have are to make us stronger.
Its just that I've had not the worst but a pretty rubbish childhood and if i were to think that it happened for no reason cept someone's sadistic desire possibly, there's no reason for me to still go on with life.
Maybe I'm jsut naive.
