During the past two weeks I have been having a lot of trouble falling asleep. This causes many problems during the day for me. I often feel light headed, drowsy, and I have a lot of trouble keeping my eyes open. I was thinking of taking sleeping pills and was wondering if any of you reccomend that I take them or if they can be hazardous to my health in the future.

Before taking anything, you should talk to your doctor. Many sleeping pills are addictive. Your doctor should be able to give you other remedies to help you sleep, and may be able to provide you with effective, non-habit forming sleeping pills. A few years ago when I was having sleeping difficulties, my doctor put me on imovane. It worked great. It put me to sleep and there was no drowsy "hangover" effect in the morning. And it's not addictive. But it's also not available over-the counter. Ask your doc before taking anything.

I use to have to take sleeping pills. I probably still should be seeing as I have terrible insomnia and my sleeping patterns are getting worse and worse. But when I take them I'm always way too drowsy in the morning and can't get up so I just go back to sleep till mid day. Has anyone else had that experience with trazadone or any other sleeping pills? Which ones don't have that effect??

I myself take medicated sleeping pills. I take Celexa to get me to go to sleep. And it helps. You might want to ask your doc about that medication. Anyhoo, I don't recomend taking sleeping pills w/out consulting a doctor first. talking about sleeping pills is getting me really sleepy *yawns*

I use Tylenol Simply Sleep. It's like Tylenol PM, but it's just a sleep aid and not a painkiller. It's good because it's mild and non-addictive, but it does help you fall asleep.

I find the non-addictive, over-the-counter sleeping pills to be way, way nastier than the Rx kind. In general though, you're better off finding a natural way to go to sleep, since no matter how "non-addictive" things are, they can be a mess to stop taking if you rely on them to function normally (i.e. go to sleep).
