This is probably a long shot, but does anyone else have this disease, or know of someone who has it? It stands for poly-cystic ovarian syndrom. It can cause infertility, and a lot of women find out that they have it when they are trying to get pregnant and are unsuccessful. I was diagnosed with it at 14 years old. The doctor thought I might have had it because I had bad acne, I gained weight, and I had very irregular periods. So then I went to the hospital to have some tests done and thought I had a tumor, but then they found out that my doctor was right and that I had PCOS. They put me on the pill to regulate my hormones (they are what causes the cysts) and my periods, and I've been on it for four years now. I was very lucky to get diagnosed early.

I've never heard of that disease before. Is it really serious? Take care, sweetie.

someone in my family has it. she's on birth control and doing fine. but when she was my age, she had her period for 5 months. she was really weak, tired, and not to mention bitchy! but she's doing much better in the 4 years that she's been on medication and going to the check ups.

^^^ That's great that she's doing better. Having PCOS can be really frustrating, especially when you haven't yet been diagnosed. I remember freaking out because I had my period for 3 weeks. Thankfully, I got put on birth control pills very early, and hopefully not much damage was done to my ovaries. If I do decide to have kids in the future (very doubtful, but it's always a possibility) I will most likely be able to conceive.

You mean you can have your period for 3 week straight if you have PCOS? Man, that would be frustrating. You're lucky to have been diagnosed early Cass!

^^^ Some of the symptoms are very irregular periods, weight gain, cystic acne, and growth in body hair (in extreme cases, some women even grow facial hair). Because none of these things are very unusual, it is difficult for a physician to suspect that a woman has PCOS. To be diagnosed, you have to have a CAT scan or ultra-sound (they actually mis-diagnosed me with a tumor from the CAT scan, and scheduled a surgical procedure for me. Then I had the ultra-sound, and they found out taht I only had poly-cystic disease). And as I said before, many women who have this disease are not diagnosed until they are attempting to get pregnant.

I'm having some problems right now. My birth control isn't being very effective. I'm on Demulin 135 at the moment. I've tried generic pills, but they gave me bad side effects. Anyway, I take my medicine at the same time every day, but lately my periods have been very irregular. For example, in the past month, I have gotten my period three times. I don't know what's wrong. I went to a gyno about two years ago, and they did some tests and said everthing is fine. I'm going to try to make an appointment, but it's going to take forever. Last time I made an appointment with a gyno, they didn't have room to schedule me until three months after I called. I want this problem to get fixed, but I'm afraid that it's going to take forever to get an appointment and see a gynocologist. This sucks so badly. I hate having PCOS!
