has anyone had mono (mononeucleosis..sp? aka "the kissing disease) ...or has it right now? i think i might have it. it's a possibility, cause both my boyfriend and my BFFE have had it recently, and we share everything . i'm going to the doctor sometime soon to check it out. i've had a high fever for the last couple days, and i've been pretty tired, but those are my only symptoms. oh, and my neck is a wee bit sore. does anyone know what this could mean? is mono really contagious? bah....it's march break too! sigh...

Well it definately sounds like mono. If I were you I would go to a doctor soon because mono is extremelycontageous, you can pick it up from food, drinks, anything!

Sounds like Mono to me, it's been going around lately... You definately need to get the doctor's opinion on this. Mono can last 1-6 months! Just to clear up any misconceptions... It's not the "Kissing Disease". In fact, like snowbunny said, It's really contageous. You can get it just by breathing around a person who has it!

Actually, i just went to see my doctor today. she says that its NOT as contagious as everyone thinks it is. The mono virus is in saliva and mucus, so you can get it by sharing food and drinks, as well as kissing someone who's infected. cassiopeia, that is wierd that the guy you were dating didn't get it.....i guess he was lucky....

Should you go to school if you have mono? My lab partner has it, and he still shows up to school everyday. That scared me when everyone was saying it was really contagious (sp?).

Mono is a very serious disease. Both my cousin and one of my friends had it and almost died from it. Really, you should get that checked out ASAP, sweetie!

^^^ Are you sure it was mono that they had? Because I had it, and the only thing wrong with me was that my glands were swollen and I was tired all the time. Anyway, it's a virus and there's no anti-biotic that you can take for it. You just have to let it pass. My doctor told me it was like chicken pox (well, before the vaccine). Most people get it eventually, and then they are ammune.

it turned out i had mono AND strep throat.....ack. but that was 3 weeks ago, and i'm feeling grrreat! i'm going to the doctor's again on monday, so hopefully she'll say i'm better. that lab partner dude probably shouldn't have been in school, but i guess if he felt well enough to go he mustn't have been very sick. mono can take a long time to get over, even if your still sick the only thing you might be feeling is tired, and then i guess being at school is okay. i hvae to go back to school soon am i really immune to it now? hurrah! never want to experience those 3 weeks again...

Yes, Cass, I'm sure it was Mono.
Mononucleosis, or "Mono", is a mild, self-limiting illness. It usually runs its course quickly and rarely produces any serious complications.
It has been estimated that approximately 50% of students have had mono by the time they enroll in college. It is an illness that mainly affects teenagers and young adults, ages 15-30, but it does occur at all ages. Many times the symptoms are so mild it is not even recognized. Recurrence of mono is rare.
Mono is contagious only through contact with saliva. Drinking from the same glass, eating from the same dish, and kissing can also transmit mono, but the organism is not airborne, so it's not spread through casual contact.
The most common symptoms include fatique, headache, loss of appetite, sore throat, tonsillar sweeling, and enlarged lymph nodes(swollen glands)in the neck, underarms, and groin. A low-grade fever occurs at first(100°)and then it may go higher after the third or fourth day.
There is no medicine to cure mono; the treatment is "symptomatic". This means treating the symptoms you have as you would any other viral upper respiratory infetion.
~Hope I've helped at least a little! ;D

I had a friend who had mono....because u can't share other peoples things (ex. drinks) U should see a doctor, she was outta school for about a week and she had sore throat and the normal symptoms....if u haven't already u should see a doctor, and yes, I think it's contagious.
