Have anyone here ever tried Pilates? Do you like it? How did you learn?
I just started doing Pilates about two weeks ago and I love it so incredibly much! It's a completely refreshing experience and your body feels absolutely wonderful when you're through. I started on Pick Your Spot Pilates, which is a great video for beginners. The instructer is very clear in her directions, and not patronizing at all as some can be.
I'm not too sure about results, yet, cause I haven't been doing it long enough.
Experiences, anyone?

Haha. Alright, I suck at explaining things, but let me give this a shot! So, Pilates is sort of related to yoga. They employ lots of floor/mat exercizes that are meant to strengthen and lengthen muscles, improve posture and tighten and tone your mid-section. Essentially, it should change the alignment of your body. For a better understanding, here's the definition as given by www.pilatesfoundation.com . "Pilates is an exercise-based system that aims to develop the body's "centre" in order to create a stable core for all types of movement. Through the process of regular classes, the body 's structure realigns and a balance is achieved within the musclo-skeletal system. Eventually the body will move with maximum efficiency and minimum effort. As studio classes are generally of small number (4/5), a high level or personal attention ensures almost one-on-one training, maximising a person's potential without risking injury. It is gentle, but focused exercise with the potential to become aerobic in its advanced form. The Method tone, stretches and mobilises and is often used to rehabilitate injuries, making it popular with athletes, dancers and anyone who wants to develop their individual physique and physical potential. Pilates is an all-encompassing mind, body and spirit exercise - a whole approach philosophy that is often shared with other techniques such as yoga, Alexander and Feldenkrais. "That help clear it up? I strongly recommend Pilates. It's amazing how your body responds to the exercizes!

Thanks for the information, Mal . I've seen a few infomercials since posting about pilates. Based on what I've seen in the commercials and the info you posted, I think I might want to try the pilates work-out. I just hope my body is flexible enough to do the work-outs. I'm not very flexible lol. ~Sarah~

That's the greatest thing about Pilates! You don't have to be! You eventually build up and increase the difficulty of your flexibility. Doing these excersizes will actually increase your flexibility. I'm not sure about other videos, but I do Pick Your Spot Pilates by Crunch. They show you two variations - the easier version of the excersize and the more challenging one. So, you can start simple until you feel like you're ready to move on. Oh, goodness - I sound like an infomercial!
